New guy questions

Thanks for the help in advance.

I am reloading for my Remy 700 5r in 308. Currently the load that I have worked up that my rifle really likes is as follows:

FGMM Brass 1X
41.1gr of IMR 4895
165 Sierra BTHP
CCI Large Rifle Magnums
@ 2.800

That being said, the magnum primers were what we had, so we went conservative, and I just got my CCI Large Rifles in so those will be loaded now instead of the magnums.

To date everything I has reloaded have been FGMM 1x that were initially shot out of my Remy and are FL resize. I have a ton of 308 from Hornady, Winchester, and Remington that I shot out of my M1A and came across some marked MKE, I am pretty sure this is 7.62 x 51. Do I need to treat this brass like military and load more conservatively? Also does it make a difference that this brass was initially fired from another gun?

Re: New guy questions

I was pretty squared away, my unit worked for the first 21 days out of Police HQ doing waterborne operations. Coincidently I had 21 pairs of skivies, t-shirts, and 5 pairs of shorts. Between that and my two wetsuits I was GTG. What I ran out of, Break-Free, and in that environment MP5's suck. Resorted to using 2 stroke oil, because I had plenty of that for the boats.

Re: New guy questions

oh yeah motor oil works good in gas guns. I was down there in July after the big leak. The devastation was remarkable. They were bulldozing blocks of houses up on the Interstate below the Lake when we were coming in. I was there for the Sons of Confederate Veterans Convention and when we left they were blocks of houses that had been removed. I would take motor oil over Break Free any day.

Re: New guy questions

I would sort your brass by manufacturer and work up loads for each brand of brass due to case capacities. Especially if you are looking for accuracy. I'm sure someone will tell you that you don't have to do that, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

As far as brass being fired from another gun, as long as it is full length resized, you can fire it to form to your chamber.

Just my opinion

Re: New guy questions

hey just to add try loading some varget.I like it in my 5r.try from 43g's to 45g's with a 165g to a 175grainer.also try seating them closer to 2.800.thats what mine likes.even two of my friends have 5r's and they like it when you load them to SAAMI specs.and no real need for major case prep.something about the 5r rifeling.its also good in 223 5r.the rifeling I mean.John
