I've had a Springfield Loaded 1911 for about 11 years, and it has always been a reliable workhorse for me. Recently, I gave it to a smith for a trigger job, new bushing, and some other work. That left me without a pistol and anxious to fill the gap.

While I love my Springfield, I have never been able to walk past a Wilson Combat or Les Baer without picking it up and drooling over the workmanship. Well, seeing as I needed to fill the void caused by sending my Springfield in for work, I finally succumbed to the pressure and bought a Les Baer Premier II. I took it to the range for the first time today and it shot amazingly. For anyone considering a Les Baer, you can't go wrong - it is an amazing pistol.

Re: New Les Baer

Enjoy your pistol. Never had any trouble in my dealings with Baer. They are very tight new so be sure to work the slide well watching TV and shoot about 300 rounds of ball through it the break it in well. They are fine, accurate pistols.

PICS (or it didn't happen)!

Seriously, congrats on your new Les Baer. They are phenomenal pistols. Like folks have already said, they are VERY TIGHT when new, but with a few hundred rounds of break-in and proper lube, they'll run like a scalded dog!!

Now your problem will be shooting your Springfield as much as your new LB!!!

I've sent a few back to him for repair. Les even calls me and we talk. What problems are you hinting at?

If Les has called you and talked, I'm sure you're aware of exactly what I'm talking about.

PII After first break in period 14000+ HG 68 200 semi wad cutters abd 230 Precision Bullets molly coated , Tripp Cobra mags (IMO better than Baer or Wilson), Enos lube ( due not clean often 600-1000), can't remember a jam except the ones I caused, upside down primer etc. Changed springs (recoil and fireing pin about very 1500 rounds. Have taken alot of BS from people that feel compeled to offer unsolicited opinions, too tight, not dependable.......

I have had others to compare with

This stuff works well for the slide, barrel and bushing:

What is the composition of Enos' Slide Glide? I'm curious where it is according to Lubrication 101 </div></div>

I have no idea what the composition is. All I can say is that it works very well and the 1911's function 100% with it and it stays put. The Wilson lube is pretty good also, but it is more like a thick oil. The slide glide is a stringy sticky grease. A very thin layer is super slick, which stays adhered to the surface really well even under heavy rapid fire with the barrel heating up.

I actually have no clue. And I'm an abrasive, short and to the point sort of person. He's always been extremely helpful, honest, and willing to share what he's thinking. There's not bullshit with him. If the problem is on his end, he flat owns up.

I wish more people were like him.

That being said, I won't own another, because of the types of problems I've had. No doubt he makes an outstanding 1911. It just seems the two of us can't be lucky together.

I had a nightmare experience with Les when I had him build me a 10mm - an absolute lemon that made a couple of trips back to him and still sh*t the bed.

One of the more interesting revelations out of the experience was that Les considers all parts his (as in LB sourced parts) simply by virtue of them sitting on his shelf. That and the claim that he personally shoots a bunch of rounds through them - while I won't go so far as to say it is utter BS, I will say there is no way he or any one else ever shot that 10mm when it was built or when it was returned to him (multiple times) for repair even when I sent mags and ammo with it.

I also had a great conversation with Ted Yost about how to build a 10mms in searching for someone else to send it to in order to get it to run. He wouldn't touch it BTW, and per his suggestion I ended up sending it to EGW.

If you like the way his .45 ACPs are set up from his product line, the odds are you will get a very well built production gun that should have no problems running 100k+ rounds if you take care of it. Deviate from that, well ..... I never will again.

Good luck

Re: New Les Baer

What was your TRS doing and what serial # range was it. Mine has been flawless for @ 50k out of the box. It is also in the 159x serial number range and looks like hammered dogsh*t now - but it runs and is still my main carry gun.

Good luck
