Rifle Scopes New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

Saw it in person.

The elevation turret seemed twice as tall as Premier's. Didn't have a premier in my other hand, but I am familiar with them and played with one a few hours later.

I looked at it, messed with it and thought it was like half a toilet paper tube sticking out the top of what could have been a reasonable scope.

Maybe like those exaggerated in size things they make for little kids to play with. You know the ones with the buttons as big as a LEO badge.

I to have had zero problems with any Leupold "scope" that I've owned. That said, I had an RXB-IV rangefinder that was the biggest POS I've ever used, but Leupold allowed me to trade it toward a MK-4, giving me full retail value of the rangefinder. I have now started upgrading to S&B's and there is NO comparison. High-end is high-end and Leupold aint high-end. Nice to see them trying though.

What BS Rumors? These guys are just trying to determine some details about that new 3K leuppy scope and I can see why. It's a unique looking scope and possibly has some features these guys want on a scope. The problem is they don't have enough information to be sure of anything, but reasoning it out is a fun exercise.

I'm not a leuppy basher either; I LOVE the VX-3 2.5-8x36 riflescope. My daughter killed her first deer with that scope mounted on an H&R Ultra Slugster shotgun. I can't say anything bad about that scope. The image is crystal clear, the eye box is HUGE...she had no trouble finding that little buck in the scope, and when she shot, the scope never touched her.

Read a little slower and I think you'll realize I was talking about the Leupold bashers when I said this.

okie

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

Yeah, that whole area just looks disproportionate. But hey, if it works...

How come that one doesn't have an illumination knob? Or the cap on the parallax knob? Could it be that the illuminated models are not FFP, and the reports of it being FFP were referring to the non-illuminated version?

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

if that main tube is 34mm...
that elevation turret must be as wide as an EREK, and taller than just about any other elevation knob ive ever seen on a scope, maybe its a 3 turn?

this guessing sure is fun, like trying to guess what im getting for xmas based on the size and shape of wrapped gifts.

hopefully this isnt a big box full of sweaters from grandma...

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

I have never had a problem with the durability of Leupold's products. In fact, I trust them a good deal more than any of my other scopes in this regard. It is their complete and utter lack of any innovation that I find distasteful. They still run 3x magnification ranges and reticle designs that are woefully outdated. They mix mill / moa every time. It's just embarrassing. I'm not saying they have to be on the cutting edge, they probably have the market position to let others make the gambles. They do have to at least copy the successes of others though I am hard pressed to find a scope in their entire line up top to bottom that does not have its ass thoroughly kicked at its price range.

This scope at least looks like it has promise. Now watch them stick an old fashioned classic mill dot in it and ruin the whole vibe. Better yet make it a duplex. They still seem to think those belong in every damn scope they make.

maybe WE (civilian shooters ) are not the market for this optic ?

maybe its the PSR contract, the USMC day optic , etc., ?

Indeed it is cut and sawed onto the PSR specs

I agree and disagree with you. I had two 6.5-20x50 Mk4s that I used for a little while then sold had no other problems per se other than what I got just didn't warrant the price. The fit and finish of the overall end product just wasn't on the level I thought it should have been for the cash spent. I had one that was prolly 4-5yrs old that was alot better than the one that was about 9mos. old when I got it about a year ago. I feel Leupolds quality has just fallen off and I have been discouraged by the fact thaqt they seem to not be trying to innovate and improve their product. Just me.

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

I haven't had an issue with the quality of the Leupold scopes that I have owned. I just can't justify paying their ever increasing prices, especially when there are other companies making as good or better scopes that actually have the features that we desire.

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

NO , this has died because , IT is not available at present ,and No new info has come OUT .

This scope still offers TWICE the adjustment per turn , compared to the small 5 Mil available on the Vortex .

Later Chris

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

I've had nothing but good experiences with Leupold, so good luck to them. I'm glad they're taking things up a notch with this optic (by the looks of things). I believe it would be beneficial for them to consolodate some of their products into a more selective and refined group in the tactical line.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to run with some of these features:
- 30mm tube (very common)
- 44-50mm objective (a good size but not excessive)
- 1/10 MIL ele + win turrets (but more... compact)
- High MIL count per revoultion
- TMR reticle with even numbers marked in and extend the vertical axis line with hash marks almost all the way down for longer holds.
- Thread in ARD with wider honeycomb ports to help allow more light to transfer into the opcit
- Tactile & clearly audible clicks
- Gnurled non slip turrets for use with gloves
- 5-15x magnification
- FFP / SFP option
- Competitive pricing with the NXS
- Cat tail style magnification ring, aid in quicker zoom shift.

just my 2c

Re: New Leupold MK4 at AAC shoot...34mm!

I briefly looked through one at the NRA convention in Charlotte,NC in May. It had a Horus reticle. I couldn't get it focused clearly, and it was not bright. It may have been an abused demo or a project gone bad. But if I were Leupold I wouldn't have had it on display, it wasn't up to snuff. I have had dozens of Leupolds and I like them, but they will have to fix the model I saw before I would give up the cash for it.
