Okay, no surprise I am a huge Accuracy International Fan, and along with that I use a lot of AI Chassis'. Not only do I use them, I beat the snot of them. Scratched, worn, painted, you name it, I have done it to a chassis and then some. Over the years they have definitely taken all the punishment I have dished out, but after a while, the skins just look plain old ratty. Sure you can get a new set of skins from a company like Mile High Shooting but why not update the skins and breathe new life into your old chassis.
Enter Victory Company with their awesome Viper Skins. They have taken the Accuracy International Skin to a new level, not just making a few improvements but giving you an option, like removing the thumbhole. Let's be honest here, not everyone likes the thumbhole. Now for me, I do, but I also like a nice pistol grip so I can get that perfect hand position with my 90 degree trigger finger. The pistol grip makes it easy.
So, here is what a set of one of my original chassis' looks like under the skins.
A bit grungy to say the least. Not very pretty on the outside either as this rifle has been to hell and back, evident by the hellish red dirt everywhere underneath.
So what I have is a GAP rifle with an OD Cerakote and some Khaki accents like the bolt, so we want to completely change this rifle into something new.
What we have here is a set of FDE Viperskins from Michael Victor. Just what we need to pump some life into this rifle.
It's simple enough to change out, just remove the old skins via the screws, in my case, I had to just about chisel a couple of screws off because they were welded to the chassis. Took off those I could, and then smashed the rest with a hammer and big old flat head screwdriver breaking the little screws in half never to be used again. That's ok, the Viperskins come with all the screws you need to replace the skins. You don't have to salvage anything if you don't want.
The changes to the look and feel of the Victor Viperskins is nice, he approached this from a users standpoint, rounding the areas the shooter would hold and placing some relief cuts where you would rest. Very smart, as well the addition of the side rails is an big plus for guys looking to use designators on their older model chassis, like this one.
Wait there is more !
How many of you guys out there have shot your AICS in the middle of summer and found yourself sweating on the cheek piece sliding off ? I know you can add a bit of Mole Skin, still it looks a bit ghetto if you ask me, and the Mole Skin barely lasts a summer, especially if you are shooting a lot, running and gunning.
There is now a solution that has been a long time coming.
The Grippy Cheek Piece:
Yes, you heard it right, someone finally adding a big of rubber to the cheek piece for your AI Chassis. I was floored how awesome this was...
Two screws changes the cheek piece out and it retains a lot of the original qualities just with a new non-slip texture to it.
Combined with the Accu Stacks from Victor, this rounds out the upgrade to your old chassis.
On the rifle everything is seamless.
Now if I wasn't being buried in some fresh snow, I would have some pictures on the line, but take my word for it, this upgrade is so simple, yet so darn effective it's crazy to think nobody did this sooner. But the Victor Company hit a home run with each and every piece of this. It takes no time to change your old skins out, and the upgrades are well worth the price, no hype here, just a solid set of products, from Accu Stacks, to the Viperskins and now the new Grippy Cheek Piece.
Here are some details:
1. Made out of a durable military grade polymer. Will not crack or split.
2. Vipers are 4 oz lighter than the original AI skins.
3. Features a grippy, replaceable pistolgrip. For those with larger hands, the XL grip will be available in 3 weeks.
4. Has an ergonomic rearstock with a hand-filling butt hook.
5. Features the "Fast Action Thumb Shelf" so the shooter can index his thumb on the outside of the stock for quick bolt manipulation.
6. Features three threaded screw mounts for the forward picatinny rails and mini QD rails.
7. Features widened forestock for more stable barricade shooting.
8. Features an offhand palmswell in front of the magwell for shooting with a sling.
Viperskins come in Black, FDE and Army Green.
For a bit of icing on the cake, Michael Victor does some awesome videos:
