Hey everyone, new here, site suggested to me by a coworker who's into precision shooting! I've been a shotgun and pistol guy for a long time, just built an AR last year and now it's time for a precision gun. So far I'm planning on purchasing a KRG X-Ray chassis, Rem 700 stainless action w/ xmark trigger, and a 24" criterion stainless barrel chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. Excited to get it put together and I'll post progress here! It'll be slow going as funds come in but ready for spring time!

Welcome to the addiction. Might want to consider a better trigger, ie, Timmney, Jewell, etc, those X-mark triggers pretty much suck. Good luck with your build!

Definitely will check it out! for now the action comes with the xmark for a good price so i'll try it out and can always upgrade down the road! I appreciate the feedback as I have no clue what I'm getting myself into hahaha

A very expensive but worthwhile addiction...that's exactly what you are getting into lol.

any thoughts on scope you will top it off with? Its a great time to get into the game with all the budget friendly options but can often still cost as much as a budget built rifle.

Been looking at a Vortex Viper PST 6-24 FFP, but was assuming i would see some price drops with the gen 2 coming out. trying to keep the optic purchase below $1k

keep an eye out on the used optics here in the PX. Great deals can be found with patience. That being said I have that scope on my Model 12 LRP 6.5CM and it's a fine scope for the money.

Some other options in that range, which may be acceptable, given your usage, with which I have personal experience:
Used Burris XTR II
Bushnell options with target turrets
SWFA options (glass is lower quality but it's tracked well for me and acceptable for most uses)

Welcome to the forum and, as others have said, the addiction! Sounds like you have a nice start planned for a build. I shot with the x-mark trigger for about 6 months when I first started with precision rifles. Like others have said, it isn't on par with the aftermarket options but it is definitely serviceable as you get started. Digesting the information available on this forum will help you make more informed purchases. Look forward to following your build/progression.

i like that setup! the good news about the KRG chassis is its a complete drop it chassis and the magwell/ trigger area is plenty big. the good about that? you can install a Timney 510 trigger and not have to worry about altering your stock to get it to work. http://www.elitetacticalcomponents.com/SearchResults.asp?mfg=Timney is where i have ordered 3 of these triggers!

thanks for the link! actually much more affordable than some others i found. is the 510 the "go-to"? i'm more partial to a flat trigger so that 517 is calling my name, same pull weight adjustment range assuming just straight vs curved?

You'll most likely be able to find a GEN II Viper below 1K before years end if you can wait that long !

unfortunately i won't be shooting at all unless i grab one of my red dots unless i buy something, and i'm a buy nice or buy twice on a budget guy so i won't cheap out but i won't get the best thing on the market. thanks for the heads up on the exchange ill definitely keep my eyes open for a deal

edit: SWFA (although backordered) has gen ii pst for $1099, i'd be willing to cave on $100 over budget for that...

If you stick with it and hang around here long enough, you'll look back and laugh at how affordable this build was. Sounds like a solid starting project, and has been hit on a lot already, be prepared to upgrade the trigger.

Welcome. Go ahead and spend coin on a trigger, the xmark pro is junk. Fighting a horrible trigger is an easy way to get discouraged early on. Also, if you plan on using your XRay with a sling, don't forget the sling mounts as it doesn't come with any, or flush cups.

I just completed my first precision rifle in 6.5 creedmoor. I used a krg xray chassis and love it. Has everything you need to get started off on the right foot. Like others have said I'd suggest upgrading the trigger, i bought a uses Jewell off here and its amazing. Good luck on your build. I also bought my scope used off here for a great deal, I spend a little more than a $1000 but if your patient you can find some great deals on here.

Welcome to the Hide and the crazy obsession of precision shooting. Sounds like you're planning on diving in with a solid starter rifle. As others have mentioned, browse the Optics and Options/Accessories PX here from time to time to find good deals on gear. I've saved a lot of $ over the years buying slightly used/ practically new here, as opposed to brand new somewhere else. Be ready to pony up some coin for reloading equipment too if you choose to go that route, or trying different weights and brands of factory ammo if not handloading, to find the best ammo for your rifle. Happy shooting!
