Hi Everyone.
I've been reading and learning here on the hide for a while and would like to thank you all for the info I have gained here. This is my first post. I have tried to answer my question on the search but my situation doesn't allow me to. I'm in the process of a build and I chose to have everything sent directly to the builder instead of coming to me first. Everything is ordered and in the works. the last item was the scope, us optics 5x25 58mm tpal 35mm tube.
I ordered the medium rings.(that is where I'm questioning myself) I want the lowest I can use and could use some help. I thought about just ordering both and seeing if Jeff would let me return the ones I don't use. probably not the best way to do things. heres what I will have.

Surgeon 1086 R action

Krieger barrel contour mtu ( I believe its #17 heavy varmint)
breech Dia: 1.25 breech length 5 muzzle Dia .9

If it makes a difference the stock will be a sentinel.

Sorry about the long post it's just that I hate to find out later that I sent the wrong parts. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: New member could use a little help.

Part of the equation will be the height of your base. If you call the outside of your 58mm scope bell 60mm overall diameter (I'm estimating here), the overall diameter in inches is 2.36". Halving that gives you 1.18" clearance required at an absolute minimum. Part of that will be the height of your base above the outside of the chamber/barrel. I'm guessing you might barely be able to get away with 1.0" ring height (med/high for Badger rings), but probably will need more like 1.125" (high for Badger rings). Whomever is doing the work on your rifle should be able to tell you which rings you'll need given your scope dimensions.

Thanks gstaylorg
The rings are going to be uso & the 1086 comes with base already on it. I'm hoping someone on here has the same set up & can just give me a heads up. now I'm thinking the mediums might not be high enough. hope I'm wrong.

Re: New member could use a little help.

Buy both sets of rings and use 2 sets of feeler gauges (one set in front of and one set behind your erector housing) and set them up for each rings height. See what your clearence is with everything assembled before you take the rings out of the bag. You should be able to find the ring height expressed as clearance between the bottom of the tube and the pic rail.

The amount of cant in your base and the forward/backward position of your scope in relation to your barrels contour is impossible to guess.

Re: New member could use a little help.

Get rifle, get scope, mock up measure and THEN order rings.the world is not going to stop in 4 business days.try waiting 4mo for a suppressor.

Hi Procovert45
Not about the time frame. 4 day's or 4 months no big deal when your doing a build or waiting for a suppressor. Since everything is being sent directly to the builder. It was more about having everything ready for him so when he starts my build He doesn't have to wait the 4 day's for my rings to show up. I'm thinking these guy's are pretty busy so I was just trying to have everything right the first go round. Guess I was trying to get lucky with this post hoping someone might have the same set up.

Re: New member could use a little help.

I have surgeon scalpel 300wm "1086/mtu" id still have him mock it up for the perfect fit,he can give you exact numbers that will let you know just how close you can push it.im sure he's got stuff to work on for 4the days.lots of 1086/mtu combos on here its entirely poss somebodys got it.if I was going uso your specs are on.

Re: New member could use a little help.

Thanks Procovert45
Robert Gradous is doing the build not to far from you. I'm thinking of going to the class so thats another reason I want it to all be ready. Hey.. Maybe you can go check it out for me. Still a little ways out. Waiting on the stock but getting close. talked with surgeon & the 1086 should be headed that way this week. I'll pm you when the build day's are set up. As long as it's ok with robert you can come over & give us a hand. Actually I want to go to the class & just watch him build it. I'm afraid I would mess something up & I know if he does it. It will be perfect.

Re: New member could use a little help.

Va your total build will be 100% perfect spec.gradious is tip top was a toss up between him and surgeon for me,but I found a low rd ct scalpel 300wm for a smokin deal
