I'm new to precision rifles, long time Ak/Ar guy and have just put together my first precision rilfe.I have a Remington 700p in 300wm in a AIC 1.5 stock with super sniper 10 pwr. I have contacted GAP for options to increase accuracy but they said there would be a 6 month weight for any upgrade. To my suprise they said not to change out the barrell and that is was a great. So is this true , the barrels are great ? What upgrades should I do?

I wouldn't change anything until I put some rounds down range with it. Get you some good match grade ammo for it and shoot it. The thing may not need anything done to it. If it want hold a group then maybe start looking at what it needs to fix the problem maybe something simple.

Do some shooting with it and get back with a little more info on how it shoots, that will get you going in a better direction.

I have no problem dumping another grand or so in it. Not too much though ,got to have the cash ready for the remington ACR as soon as it hits the streets

. GAP quoted only 350.00 for the upgrade to get it sub 1/2 moa. Six month wait hurts

Re: New member here seeking advise

I went with the 10 pwr super sniper because there seem to be so many choices of high quality optics out there. I needed a cheap scope that wasn't a total POS to hold me over. I love my Acogs and want to get a long range scope that gathers light and performs as well as they do. I'm not completey sold on the Mark 4's and have actually been looking into the nightforce models. Any ones in particular you would recommend. I prefer fixed power

Re: New member here seeking advise

US Optics makes a great fixed ten power that is decently priced. But i agree with the other guys. Spend money on ammo and reloading supplies ans learn your gun well. I used a super sniper for awhile and it worked well.

Re: New member here seeking advise

Spend money on glass first, then shoot the barrel out, then rebarrel. There is no need to do "accuracy upgrades" to a Rem action and factory barrel. Honestly, the only real advantage you will probably see is a custom barrel will not copper foul as quickly. Truing the receiver & bolt, lapping lugs, and setting back a factory barrel will only accomplish one thing - depleting your bank account of $350. That money would put you about 200 rounds of 300WM closer to actually needing a new barrel. Find someone that can tune the trigger down to about the 2.5-3.0# range and fire away.

well my 700p came with the new trigger that I can adjust it down. I think it's set right now for 3 pounds

Re: New member here seeking advise

Spend your money on ammo and learn how to shoot the gun you have first. That setup is more than you need to make the transition from AK to precision rifle. If you upgrade anything down the road, it should be the glass.
