New Metal for UAV operators

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

HORSESHIT!

A "thanks for the SUPPORT" from the men on the ground they are SUPPORTING from a very very safe distance should be plenty for them. Everyone has their place in the military, but not everyone deserves any sort of high ranking medals on or ABOVE the people truly in harm's way for that said job. Should have picked a more "heroic" job if that's what you're after...

Carry on with the pussification of America...

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

It also applies to Cyber Warefare. Personally, I think it is complete bull shit.

Probably some great idea thought up while on a crew rest break...

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

They get wings, flight pay, and call themselves aviators as well. I think it's a load of crap all the way around. I spent 2 years of my life in flight school studying my ass off to get my wings. If one of those Pogs ever tellse that they are an aviator to my face, I'm going to pilot my fist into their nose.

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

But come on guys you have to make everyone feel good about themselves.

I mean hell those of us that have been shot at, blown up, in ACTUAL combat... heck we are just the peons to the UAV guys. I mean hell I wouldn't want to be able to go to my own house and see my wife and kid when I was done with a mission. I mean what kind of crappy deployment would that be???

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

This is frustrating we are facing a problem with our society where we are knocking down our true warrior class by uplifting the mentally and physically weak.

There is a vast difference between sighting in on a drone and pushing a button versus applying irons on a target and neutralizing it.

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

If there is a medal for them there should also be consequences when they fail at a mission or their UAV gets shot down.

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

Is that article for real...? Did he really get "honored" for tripping over an extension cord & spraining his ankle while leaving is work station....? Really..??

^This. Complete horseshit. If they're getting a medal, it should be about as significant as an Army Achievement Medal, which is pretty meaningless. Having it above a BS means that you're essentially telling the ground units, "Fuck you guys, we value gamers over barrel-chested freedom fighters." Fuck. That. Noise.

My only problem with this is that it will rank above the Bronze Star. You know, the medal you can get if you were really in harms way doing battle.
</div></div>

Sorry man but the Bronze Star is the equivalent of an ARCOM for E7 and above now. Lost all of its true meaning years ago.

Re: New Metal for UAV operators

Just about all the the awards that you get anymore are meaningless. You can' be the biggest shit bag in you unit and still get these "awards". I have all of mine in a box down in my basement, why show them to people when everyone else can just show up and get them as well.

Now that is not to say that these guys shouldn't get a little piece of the spot light, but not a metal. They have the job that keeps them atleast state side, don't have to worry about getting shot, can go use a porcilin toilet when they need, always have hot coffee, and hot food. This award is going to make a lot of people mad and make people not want to do their jobs when they really need to be done.

I went to college with an AF UAV driver who was stationed in Vegas. She used to show up to support groups and talk about how she had to take up drinking because of all the up-close killing she did. WTF.

I agree. BHO and his fellow Democrats have castrated the American military.

Lol. This.

If you think medals are ridiculous, listen to this...

I'm working convoy support outside of Baghdad and get a call to snap north for an emergency tasking, details enroute. Im getting geared up for a TIC. South of Balad we are told to intercept a wounded Predator and escort it to base.

WTF?

So you pull an armed fighter off a CAS mission to escort an unmanned damaged drone? No wonder they didn't tell us what it was. I'd be happy, on the way home, after my primary mission, to bomb it for them if it crashed just to keep technology out of the wrong hands. But escorting a drone with a manned fighter is a ridiculous misallocation of resources and firepower. Not that I was surprised really.

Guy probably got an airmedal for landing it. Hope he didn't get PTSD.

Man, I'd be pissed too. That's some serious bullshit. Isn't part of the purpose of drones so that we don't put as many people at risk? And then you're going to go rescue one? Good god, yeah, maybe a couple WP grenades to burn it up as you drive back, but a whole mission to recover it? Insane. I hope no one got hurt going to get that damn thing.
