When I got my AIAW & Hensoldt, the 0MOA Alphamount I had for my Premier wouldn't work. As most of you know, the AI pic rails are 0MOA, and extend out past the action a little. I'm guessing this is because they use the same rails for the standard AW's and AWSM's. Because the Hensoldt is shorter, the objective was hitting the pic rail, even with the mount and scope pushed all the way forward. Some Shout Box Gunsmiths suggestion cutting off the extra rail....

... and hacksaw seemed to be the method of consensus. Somehow, that just didn't sound right. So I contacted Richard, and told him my problem. He finished my sentences, knowing exactly what I need. 35MOA, and an increased saddle height. He said he was gearing up to make some Alphamounts so he put me in the mix. He emailed me when he shipped it and said he included a " small gift " that he hoped I would like. Today, there was a gorgeous box from Canada sitting in my mailbox, and I just finished mounting everything up. The " small gift " looks totally bad ass up front.

Check it out... I can't, no matter how hard I try, convey the quality of Richard's machining. Near Alphamounts and Hensoldt scopes should be mandatory pairing. They just look like they were made for each other.

Look at this pic below. He chamfers the front of the rings here, allowing the objective bell to come back if need be. The detail in his work is unbelievable.

Wide angle shot for reference....the scope/mount look to be born of the same womb.

I could not agree more on what a great guy Richard is and his customer service is as good as his attention to detail. I will continue to use his products and recomend him to every one!!

Re: New NEAR Alphamount with Hensoldt

It's a beautiful thing!

Any idea of the height of the mount? I'm curious because I see the close clearance, and I have similar concerns about a 45 moa AI mount on the flat, long upper on my incoming AX.

No, but I'll measure it when I get home. I'm taking my parents to see Anthony Bourdain live in 20 min, so I'll get it for you later tonight.

admittedly, nothing yet...maybe a doc optic...I just think it looks cool as all hell..

Hey Bob,

Bourdain was great. I laughed for two hours.

The mount measures just under 1.5 from the top of the rail to the center of the rings.

Dave,

My wife is jealous. We are watching travel channel as I type this!

Thanks, I have to measure my AI mount. Tomorrow. When I am more sober.

Thanks!

Re: New NEAR Alphamount with Hensoldt

They are awesome.

I've had a few over the years and every single one was awesome. And they NEVER leave a ring mark.

I didn't know he was milling pic rails into them now.

Re: New NEAR Alphamount with Hensoldt

You can use a 40 MOA rail with the Hensoldt 4-16x FF scope and get a de facto zero stop as a bonus. I don't think Richard makes one, so 35 MOA is as close as you can get with a Near Alpha mount.

If my new rifle zeros the same as my current one, minus the difference in mounts, I will have .5 mils left under my zero. So it will be close...

+1

That's a really nice setup BTW.

I used the Badger 20 MOA base on my M2008 with a Spuhr 20.6 MOA scope mount and ended up zeroed at 3.5 mils above zero with a 4-16x56 Hensoldt. Worked out great. Kudos go to Jason for his help with it.

I originally had richard's 45 MOA rail with my 0 MOA alpha with the 4-16 hensoldt on my TRG42 .338, and my zero was about 500 yds with the scope cranked all the way down. Turns out that I needed just a bit over a mil more for a 100 yd zero. Unfortunately, I had to go down to the 25 MOA rail for a 100 yd zero. The great thing was that richard let me try both rails and keep the one that worked. He is a great guy to do business with.

Man I really like that forward pic rail on the alpha. Had no idea that richard made those.

Based only on the specs in the HUDISCO/Zeiss online brochure, the 4-16x FF can use a canted rail up to 43MOA with a 100-yard zero. However, there may be slightly more up or down elevation from optical center, the spec sheet might be conservative, and total travel depends on the actual dimensions of the erector and cell and there is the possibility of slight variations. Bottom line: you might make it if you're lucky! Please post the outcome.

Re: New NEAR Alphamount with Hensoldt

DesertMonkey, with that 40 MOA (and a 100 yd zero I assume), how much elevation do you have before your scope bottoms out. I know there could be slight variations scope to scope, but it would give me an idea of what I'd be looking at.

Thanks man.

I know, I'm working on that. I've only had it a few weeks. I just finished 300rnds, so I'll rub some finish this weekend.

</div></div>Well, that is encouraging at least. Yeah, I'll let you guys all know on the outcome, I'll know Sunday unless something goes wrong.

Re: New NEAR Alphamount with Hensoldt

It worked, I have .6 mils left over at a 100 yard zero. Exactly the same as my Schmidt 5-25 with a zero stop.

Re: New NEAR Alphamount with Hensoldt

I have 1 mil before I bottom out on my 4-16 NH1 Hensoldt. That is with a 40 moa alpha mount on my AE. I have the same thing on my AW.
Hope that helps you out.

Cheers,
