Hi All

I am a long time scopaholic. I've discovered that I buy rifles simply to mount optics on them! Anyway, after a looong time of only buying German or Austrian, I expanded my obsession to include a few Leupolds and finally as of yesterday a Nightforce.

It is a 2.5-10x32 Mildot with Mil knobs. Sweet little scope. Seems very robust, glass clear, (still don't totally understand how to reset the zero stop, but will give it a whack tomorrow).

Over all I am really impressed. This is nice kit! I've looked through the larger NF's and they just never seemed as clear as this one (ditto for Leupold my MRT's are lower range, it seems as soon as you go past 10x they get cloudy)

I would say my only real complaint on these scopes is the finish. It seems to get marred from the slightest incident and tend to collect ring marks too. So if there is anyone from NF that reads these things, please put a tougher better finish on these please (and I've seen lots of other NF with major ring marks)

Would I get another? Yes* but only a lower power unit, still not totally convinced of optical clarity in the upper reaches, maybe the newer ones are better, or I am spoiled looking through old school S&B's and Hensoldts? I wish they would come out with a 4-16x42, oh and real flip caps please, these ones that they come with seem almost disposable temporaries.

Thanks for reading.

Re: New Nightforce owner - observations

Other than considering the FFP 3.5-15 F1, I probably wouldn't consider a NF besides the 2.5-10X32. It's a very nice scope. Setting the zero stop is pretty easy. As long as you take care not to overtighten...just as with any little screw. Get the scope zeroed, then remove the turret cap. Loosen the zero-stop bolt and turn the zero-stop clockwise until it stops. Retighten. Replace the turret cap and position it so the zero indicator lines up with the arrow and tighten it up.

Note: If you bottom out the stop while trying to get your zero, you'll have to take the cap off and loosen up the zero stop a few turns to give yourself some room to turn the turret. It's a little bit of a pain because you'll need the cap on to turn it.

It is hard to beat S&B's and Hensoldt scopes, but their prices reflect their lens quality. Nightforce are great scopes, especially when you consider their price.

One of the things I like about the NF is the precision of the turrets, the clicks always seem really tight and precise. USO and up have as nice or nicer turrets but IMO, at NF price point is where you finally get into a scope with precise turrets, anything cheaper and they are no where near as good.
