New rem. 5R 1 hole 5/16 group!

Re: New rem. 5R 1 hole 5/16 group!

I know. 50 yds. Nothing to crow about. BUT. I'll post the 100, 200, 400. She seems to shoot straight. Pics? I'll try, but I'm old! Figuring that out, may kill me! I didn't want to pull the trigger on that 5th shot, cause I didn't want to blow the group. I figured, "what the hell". Couldn't believe it. One hole, from a "factory" gun. I was shooting 37.3 Vihtavouri, Behind a 168 gr. Sierra BTHP, hand load. COL 2.8050!

Re: New rem. 5R 1 hole 5/16 group!

Mine will do that all day long,44gr. of Varget and 175SMk's. And I shoot it alot farther than 100 yards. They Shoot. Only complaint I have is i'm at a velocity disadvantage with the shorter barrel. One more F-Class season and it'll have a 28 or 30" barrel.

Re: New rem. 5R 1 hole 5/16 group!

Yes indeed, I have been wanting to make the trip there for a while, I have a friend that shoots there at times.. well really two friends that shoot there.. Chief Hospitalman Sean Lane and Master Chief Mike Gaffney.. they have been wanting me to come up for a while now. Being a ex Navy Corpsman myself it would be a treat.

Re: New rem. 5R 1 hole 5/16 group!

My 5R shoots .5 inch groups at 100 yards. I run 43.8 target. Getting about 2,550 fps. Not too bad.

These guns clean up very easy and quickly. I want to get the 300 WM version.

The Viht isn't cheep, or easy to find. The 5R is a starter gun. The advice I've read "here", was to get a "starter" and figure it out from there. I've been shooting my hunting rifles. Old 30-30's 45-70s, 35 Remingtons. I haven't shot a group this tight, ever! I'm hooked.

Congrats! The 5R is one great rifle. I love mine (my first bolt action rifle) and will keep it until I wear it out

That's a nice group, even for three. I've got some 178gr A-max on order. going to work up some loads for them, and post em.

An example of one of the groups I got using 165 fgmm. This thing is suh-weet.

ETA: at 100 </div></div> Hey Takashi- Nice bull!! Was the "dead on bull", the first shot or the last? What amazes me, is the fact that I was ready, and walking into the gun store, to order a 3500 dollar rifle. The "guy" showed me the 5R, and said "try this, before ya do."Now I'm gonna spend some "real" money on optics instead. It's a great out of the box shooter.

It's not luck it's picking the right model. I've had several -.5" groups with my 5r but I call her a 1/2 moa cause on average that's what she and I do.

One of the suck-ass guns WAS a 5R. It had a crown that was cut by a drunken hillbilly with an old can opener, I think.

Yup. All three of the 5Rs that came into the shop at the same time had the same shitty crown. The owner wound up sending all three of them to his smith and having a good crown put on them, and just added it to the cost of the guns. He said for $60 it wasn't even worth screwing around with sending it to Remington.

Re: New rem. 5R 1 hole 5/16 group!

Remember: With a Remington factory rifle YOU are the quality control.

The 5R's do shoot, though.

OP, good start. Go to 100 and do it again.

Re: New rem. 5R 1 hole 5/16 group!

All this talk about groups it made me want to shoot some this morning so I grabbed some ammo and went out back. I used my handloads, FGMM 168, Black hills red box 175 match ammo.

I used the old 5R with a YHM 762 suppressor, Bi-pod and a back bag. Mirage was kinda bad for 100 yards today, I guess it's from all the water still on the ground and then the sun came out and started to heat things up. ...Anyway.

First 5 was my handloads in the center. .692" Secound set was bottom left useing Fedral Gold metal match 168's. 1.067" Thrid set was bottom right useing Blackhills 175's. 1.067" Last set was upper right useing my handloads again and waiting for the mirage to completly go away (It took about 5 minutes to get those 5) It was wierd to get the exact same group between the FGMM and Blackhills.
