I have been researching and searched on the Hide, found great posts, but can't decide between the .260 remington and the 6.5 Creedmoor. plan on using a underground skunkworks action. They seem to be very close in ballistics and BC. Trying to get input.

I chose the .260 because it was highly adequate and worked on a short action. Of the three, it loads out to the longest OAL, and may tend to like an OAL that's rather a tad long for magazine feeding. The 6.5CR is supposedly intended to resolve that. I don't quite know what the 6.5x47 is intended to do.

Starting with my first 6.5, I think I'd probably forego the short action completely, and go wih the 6.5x55. If I had been starting with a long action, that would have been my choice. The 6.5-284 is a bit too much of a good thing, IMHO.

Looking back at a do-over, I'd consider 6mm as the largest bore I'd put on a short action, probably a 6BR, 6BRX, or 6XC; .243 Win at most.

They are two peas in a pod, negligible performance difference. My recommendation is to find how available the cases are. Most .260 shooters caseform from either .243 or 7mm08 with excellent results. The 6.5Creed is not so easy to form, so finding cases would be a factor in my decision. If you can get brass for either, flip a coin. You'll never notice the difference.

If you've truly researched this on the hide and the 80 gazillion "6.5 CM or 260" threads that inevitably end with "it really doesn't fucking matter" haven't helped you make up your mind then I really don't know what anyone here could say that would be of any salient use.

Do some searching here. This exact topic has been beaten to death here with more recent information. In fact I think it was even posted to within the last week or two.

I also chose 6.5 Creedmoor and put in an order about 3 weeks ago. Should be a great caliber/rifle combo. Was nothing wrong with the 260 though, just personal preference.

You have made a good choice in going with the 6.5CM.
The case was engineered with the bullet and powder working as a team.
When the 260 guys are out trying this powder and that bullet in a effort to find the load you will be up and running.
Stick with the 140 A-Max and 41.5 of H-4350.
With the above factory load brass will last.
So long as you bump the shoulder back only .002 you should get 8 reloads on it and it will only grow about .008.
ES of 5 over 10 shot string thats going to be hard to beat.
Anyone have better?
If so please post I am looking for improvement.

I also went through this same problem last summer. I went with the Creedmoor. Both will do exactly the same and what ever you want a 6.5 to do. The 260 has the advantage of being out for quite a while. The Creedmoor was purpose built for competition and is one hell of a round. Mine shoots flat out like a lazer beam. Just flip a coin.

I like the shoulder on the 6.5 CR, but I know of many Highpower shooters that had to wait quite a while for brass and loaded ammo. At least with a 260, one could use any 243, 260, 7-08 or 308 brass. I don't like shooting cartridges that I am depending on only 1 supplier for brass. I had a 6.5 Grendel that I offed for just that reason.

While it is not there yet. Dies are being produced by Redding. I suspect it will only be a matter of time and there will be options.

Guys are getting 8+ reloads out of the CM brass and so long as you use the Hornady data you will also.
1,000 brass 580.00
48 pounds of powder 810.00
8000 140 A-Max 2032.00
8000 Primers 256.00

Cost of 8000 rounds of ammo if you get 8 reloads off the brass is 3,678.00.
.46 cents a round or 46.00 a hundred.

Now for the cost of the rifle.
I just has a Stiller built barreled action on a TAC 30 with 20MOA rail. Cost with barrel and trigger was was 1,645.00 shipped.
Three extra chambered and head spaced barrels 1,500.00
ACIS 2.0 with bi-pod and sling shipped 1,200.00
Scope 2,000.00
So its going to cost 6,345.00 for the kit to shoot 8,000 rounds of ammo
at a cost of 3,678.00 for said ammo.
6,345.00 + 3,678.00 is 10,023.00 and I still have no drag bag,PDA or wind meter.
So...So if I include the cost of the kit over 8,000 rounds its going to cost 1.25.00 every time the rifle goes bang.

Crap...I got off track new rifle on my mind what was it you were you saying about the brass???
Brass is cheep who gives a shit about brass......buy a 1000 of what ever and forget about it......
