I finally got my my rem 700 build complete that I set up for coyote hunting. I had an offer on the setup that I could not refuse. So now all I have is a pocket full of cash. So what build would you guys choose with around $800-$850. I'm not afraid to buy used guns or scopes either. Let me know what you guys think

Re: New rifle suggestions.

Coyote hunting and just shooting for fun. I don't need to spend that much. I had a millet trs-1 scope before and did not like it very well

Re: New rifle suggestions.

man your options are abound. More info needed...what cals are you looking for? what manufacturers? Hell you could go AR platform...No way you are going custom built with scope for $850.00 and if so I would run from that smith haha

.223,22-250,222,6mm,or 243 all good for what you want...as well as many others.

Re: New rifle suggestions.

Savage and a 10X weaver. you can restock it but you'll have to save and get a barrel. 10fxp from wally world $380, stock $200, Glass $200, = $780. Save $150 and add the $70 for a barrel.

Re: New rifle suggestions.

sorry about that i thought i added more info. It needs to be .223 I am leaning in the direction of savage or remington. Where is a good place to look at stocks and what do you mean by save to get a barrel?

Re: New rifle suggestions.

I would honestly love to have a rifle that could hit a baseball or something at close to 300 yards nothing crazy. I dont plan on hunting over 250 yards either.

LOL..that easy huh? just throw a shilen barrel on there and guaranteed MOA at 300? Damn i guess i've been going at things wrong all these years..haha!

you can't be serious with that comment? haha.

.223 is a very accurate round in general and whether you buy a Remington or Savage you'll be fine. Accuracy will first come from your ability to pull the trigger, and second from the ammo you shoot, in other words reloading or factory ammo.

I would not go with put a Shilen barrel on it and you are golden..haha, but thats just me.

Re: New rifle suggestions.

25. You are right. I may have took for granted his abilities and what he'd be feeding it. I can shoot and I reload. Sometimes I get passionate and forget not everybody has spent decades and their life savings shooting. LOL and haha sum up how I feel now. Just so I won't cry. Really, a stocked rebarreled savage can be a real shooter but 25man is right when he says you will prolly need to reload and have many hundreds if not thousands of rounds down range to be able to hit a baseball at 300 with any cosistancy.

Re: New rifle suggestions.

I meant to say 200. And I think mabe I might be asking a little
Much with the baseball target. But I am thinking either a Remington 700 or a savage rifle not sure what one.

Re: New rifle suggestions.

You can pick up a R700 SPS Tactical in 223 for about $600 base, rings, and a used 10x will probably run to $300 if you use an EGW base and Burris XTR rings with a used Bushy 10x or an older SS 10x. The other option that's more long term would be a Stevens 200 in 223 for about $390 base and rings the same and more like $3-400 for a scope. If you used the same set up (10x with an ok but not premium base and rings) and waited you could put on a better stock, barrel, and glass over time as you save for them.
