hello I am new to snipershide, I have been a life long hunter and love shooting. I dont have a true "long range rifle" yet I will be getting one soon. My budget is 660, I already have a leupold VX-3. What would you guys suggest for a rifle I am thinking remington 700 in 308.

PS also kinda cheap to shoot.

Thanks.

Re: New rifle

Rem 700 SPS in .308 or Savage 10FCP-HS also in .308 are both great rifles. There have been a few of each pop up here in the for sale section for about what you have to spend.

Re: New rifle

Good choice in caliber. 308 is always available. If you reload, shooting it is going to be much cheaper than some of the bigger calibers. Can't go wrong with 700 series in XCR, PSS, or SPS tactical model.

Re: New rifle

FWIW, if you do decide to go with a 175 SMK, my pet load is IMR 4064 44.2 grains, CCI 200, Win case, loading to 2.900". For 155 scenars, Lapua case, Fed 210, Varget 47.4 gains at 2.910". Please both loads are very accurate, but at the top of the powder curves. Make sure you work up your load accordingly. Be safe.
