New Rifles 2018

Is it just me or are rifles getting uglier and uglier?

Nothing in that list looks impressive.

not just you. I predict, in 2019, someone will come up with a chassis that incorporates a bottle opener, a TP dispenser and a jizrag receptical. Then, guys would never need to leave the range....

Holy shit, uglier than ass:

The HMR in .223 has my interest but I'm not digging the 1-8 twist. Was hoping for 1-7 for the 80s and 90s.

The 1:8 is an utter fail on that rifle IMO.

If Bergara decided to make a "regular" HMR with a 20", 1:7, 1/2-28 threaded barrel chambered in 223 Match they'd sell a shit ton of them. Instead, they make their 223 a more expensive upmarket rifle with a fast-but-not-fast-enough 8 twist. You could run 80.5/82 Bergers or 80gr SMKs, but stability for the 75 and especially 80gr ELD-M is lacking down near sea level and below standard atmospherics.

Is the 75 ELD-M significantly longer than the old 75 Amax? If it isn't from first hand experience (and lots of it) it will run just fine at near sea level on a cold day out of a 1-8 barrel, charts and ballistic aps notwithstanding.

I think rifles are a lot like women, you either get practicality and performance OR you get beauty... if you want all three it's going to cost you!

The drop At heel I s so severe on that weatherby, a shooter will never get a proper check weld. It’s like the designer forgot that most modern rifles use optics, but then failed to add iron sights. A fail of all three...

The krg grips look like a 2x4.
And yet it's the most ergonomically correct stock design I've ever come across.

Other stocks that I've used enough to compare it to:
AR15A2
AR15 carbine (M4 USGI stock)
Weatherby style
CZ hog's back
Manners MCS-T/McM HTG
McM USMC M40A3/M40A5
Anschutz prone (both in rimfire and centerfire rifles)
Deep belly NRA match rifle

I'm pretty sure that stock is designed to fit women. The butt's pitch combined with the large DAH is a dead giveaway.

That word gets thrown around on here a bunch. A purse would also be ergonomically correct for a guy, but...

Another phrase that gets thrown around a lot (and is still true): form follows function.

I don't give a crap about appearances. Only about function.
