Rifle Scopes New Rings OR Scope Riser??

I have a question, and need some input. I just purchased the new AX Chassis, and my NF scope with the 56MM objective needs to be about 1/4" taller to lay flat ontop of the AX Shroud. So, do I go with slightly taller rings, or just get a 1/2" Scope Riser? Im guessing if I go with the 1/2" scope riser, this will give my objective about 1/4"-1/3" above the AX Shroud since Im in the negative about 1/4".

Thanks!

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

New rings ... less moving parts is better. Risers are a half-baked solution.

Also, if your current rings are good quality, you could probably sell them & spend less for new rings than for the cost of a riser. E.g., new Seekins will run about $110 shipped, while you can easily sell used Seekins for $90 shipped.

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

I had to go with a zero MOA base and got some "high" Leupy Mark 4 rings from a friend to get the 50mm NXS on my AX chassis. With the 56mm bell, I would say you are going to need super high rings.

With the 0 MOA base, I still have enough travel to get to my 1500 yard DOPE. I think I had 18 MIL's left.

With your "high" rings, how far does the objective sit above your AX Shroud?

Not much. I haven't tried a Butler Creek cover yet, but I doubt it's going to fit. The rubber covers that came with the scope won't fit. I get home tomorrow night, if you want, I can measure it.

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

That would be great. Would like to know before I spend more $$ on rings ughhhh lol

Will do man. I don't get off till midnight tomorrow, so send me a PM on Saturday if I forget. I have a set of rings and a base I purchased for sale due to the new chassis. Hopefully I can help some other people such as yourself from making the same mistakes.

I will say this, having shot the new chassis this past week. It's totally worth it. Best stock I've ever had the pleasure to shoot.

BTW: I'm guessing the clearance is about the thickness of a wood match stick. Hope this helps.

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

We have new heights 1.26" and 1.4". The 1.26" rings should be just perfect. If you get some rings from us and they are not comfortable or you want a different height you only need to buy 1 set. We will swap you out as much as you need to make it perfect for you.

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

Just measured everything. It looks like you got it figured out though. So i'll post my findings for future reference in case anybody needs the info.

With the Nightforce 50mm scope and Leupold high rings that are advertised at 1.06" I have 1.8mm clearance between the scope and the chassis.

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

As you can see in the picture, there is just a hair of light between the shroud and scope. If my Feeler gauges are correct, then I have .737MM of clearance. I took the sunshade off, and saw a little marking from where the bottom end of the sun shade was hitting the top of the shroud. Do yall think this will be an issue, or should I go with taller rings?

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

Yea, thats what Im thinking. I think NF's next height is 1.375?

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

I just got another set of NF rings. I installed the 1.375. Im guessing its much better seeing as there is more clearance about 1/4" or so, and no more sun shade bashing lol.. I am selling the NF rings 1.265 here (http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2980963#Post2980963)

Re: New Rings OR Scope Riser??

I like them. There is a pic above that shows the new rings. It doesn't seem to high to me. I Know the closer to the barrel the better, but I couldn't find an in between on ring heights.
