Recently a buddy of mine told me about Black Dog Machine holsters for the MKII ruger. I checked out their website and decided to try one as I have yet to find a scoped holster for my Slabside that I like. Well the search is over. I did a little Dremel and file work to mine for the long pistol scope to fit, but a Fast Fire, Speed dot, or open sights should fit without any mods. My 6 7/8" barrel stops right at the end of the holster and it seems to ride my hip good. It can be worn strong or weak side and they have a high ride and low ride paddle option. I purchased one of each paddle. Retention is adjustable with two Phillips head screws and paddles are easily swapped by removing 4 screws. This setup cost me $49 shipped and that included the second paddle option

. Now I can go back to packing my favorite pistol again.

Re: New Ruger MKII holster

Nicely done!! While it probably won't come in to play given the location...you might want to take a little fine grit sandpaper just to round off the corners/edges on the portion you had to relieve with your Dremel. Kydex hurts like hell when it slices your hand/finger open!! Don't ask me how I know!

Re: New Ruger MKII holster

I'd say it would be real tight. If you had a way to remove the ribs on either side of the barrel channel you'd probably gain about 1/16" or so. I measured the spread with my calipers and it was exactly 1" inside between the raised ribs.

Re: New Ruger MKII holster

Great Job! I have the same pistol but have the Volquartsen target trigger which is much wider than the factory trigger. Do you think this holster will clear the trigger?

Re: New Ruger MKII holster

I'm seriously considering one of these for my Buckmark Any idea if the Blackdog will accomidate a Buckmark?? Nice write-up to the OP.

Re: New Ruger MKII holster

I have looked at these before and talked to the mfg. Nobody seems to know. Guess I should just order one and find out.

I'll check mine again this evening and see how much clearance it has with the factory trigger.

Re: New Ruger MKII holster

Thanks, I have worked with this type plastic before & would like to tell you that if you make a quick pass or 2 on the area that you removed with a propane torch it will once again look like the rest of the holster

Re: New Ruger MKII holster

Mike, that is a Bushnell 2x I believe. A buddy of mine was impressed by my rifle setup, so he gave me the scope for mounting 4 of his scopes on his rifles and level them and rough them in at 100yds for him. I couldn't pass it up at that price

. It does pretty well. Here's a 50yd prone target from Saturday.
