sold my ar to build my 22-250 as wanted to pd and yote hunt and could not get over the spring noises on the ar and case length limetations. ended up going with the savage 12fv ( heavy 26" barrel) and trashed the stock in favor of the b and c medalist. it is the 12 twist barrel version model 12 not the 9. I worked loads up using varget and hornady amax 52 grn. I must say it is a nice shooter. Using 36 grn of the varget and neck sized brass with fed lr magnum primers at 10 thou off lans, I got the loads to shoot .17" 3 shot groups off bags at 100 yds. the 36.5 charge almost got the same ( .180) but increased the vel to 3795 which is a bit hotter than want to go. The 36 grn charge goes 3750 which is a good compromise between speed and barrel life. nice thing is can load the 308 with varget too and hence can order 8# cans of it
i cannot say too much how happy i am with the savage. The bolt is smoother by far than the 700 and has the floating bolt head. Also easy as pie to swap out barrels at home when time comes. No need to get expensive barrels if the factory savages shoot like this. I suspect one hole groups at 100 of a bench sled. The accutrigger takes getting used to, but now i hate my rem one that I thought was feather crisp lol. Now I might have an exceptional rifle by chance, but I suspect most will shoot close to this. It is heavy, and by no means a sporter but that goes with the territory. Cannot wait to do same build in 308 with the 22" barrel and matching stock. Somebody stop me!
oh and as a side note, am not seeing any case length growth despite what you read about the 22-250. This is part due to neck sizing and also to not going extreme vel over 4k which might well flow the brass a bit more.
