Fresno, Ca.
I just picked up my rifle today from the store. I got it home and i started to investigate the rifle like any new owner would, familiarizing myself with the rifle.

Well the problem is now that i have looked it over i noticed that the Bolt doesnt go all the way down like i believe it should, from reading the manual it says that the 3 stage Safety should engage with the bolt closed locking the bolt and trigger into place.

So here is the problem, when i push the bolt into the locked position, the three stage safety will only go to stage 2, i looked at the safety engagement and i have noticed that because the bolt doesn't go all the way down to the stock the safety isn't lining up with the notch that was made for it so that the bolt and trigger would lock with the safety fully engaged.

I have been looking around online, and i'm just not having any luck. Basically what i want to know is if there is anyway i can like twist things slightly and make it so that the bolt lines up the way it is supposed too, or am i going to be forced to send it back to savage because of this misalignment?

TIA

Re: New Savage Model 10 FP-SR problem

I haven't had this problem with mine, but maybe try pulling the action from the stock and working it that way. If it closes, great! If not, maybe you can spot the bind and either clear it up or know you'll have to send it back.

Hope it all works out for you. They are great guns!

well i took it out of the stock, and it's still locking in the same place.

It's like it is locking too soon, and isn't getting fully aligned the way it is supposed too so that the first stage of the safety will engage while it's closed.

Vixtar, I'm in Madera and a good freind of mine is the owner/operator of a well known gunsmithing shop/custom rifle builder in town. I know my way around Remingtons too, but other than my wife's Savage model 10 predator, I have little experience with them. If you want, PM me and maybe we could get together and compare her rifle to yours and hopefully find the problem. If not we can get it in for a checkup here locally, and you won't have to go through the hassle of dealing with Savage or the dealer... BTW, who'd you buy it from? Not H.B. I hope!! Dan

vixtar, if it has a scope mounted make sure that none of the screws for the base is protruding through the receiver wall into the chamber area. this could cause binding and is a problem often overlooked.

you sir are an amazing man, that is EXACTLY what it was and something i would not have thought of on my own, i backed out the rear most screw on the front mount and now its locking down the way it is supposed too!

Thanks!

You should cut the screw down so you can tighten it back up. good luck!

Actually, some bases come with longer screws for the rear than the front. Chances are that the screws are reversed or mixed up. I would remove the base and check the screw lengths. If two are longer then use them at the back.

Re: New Savage Model 10 FP-SR problem

i did indeed go about checking what screws where were, i found a really really short one in the rear mount, i moved that one forward and the long one to the back, it works like a charm now. Now to get out to the range and run some rounds through it!
