I was looking for a LTR in 300saum a few months ago, and never found one. I was on the phone with savage to get a complete back up bolt assembly for my daughters PC in .308(she is taking some LR classes this spring). While I was on the phone with Savage I asked if they could build me a PC in 300saum, they said no but could do one in 300wm, so I ordered it. It finally came in this week and here it is with my daughters .308 PC. I didnt want the digital camo stock so I ordered it without it. The rifle came just like any PC with the exception of the silver bolt, and nicer recoil pad(much softer), and the accustock is without the wedge. The .308 rifle weighs just under 8 pounds, the 300wm is just under 9 pounds they are the same rings and base but scopes are different. I really hope this rifle shoots as accurate as the .308 and I will use it to hunt from my tree stand(my 300wm sendaro is kind of long for this), and shoot some LR matches with my daughter(her rifle shoots great out to 800yds so far). I have a bunch of new brass and 208amax, 190smk, and 130ttsx(great on whitetail deer out of 300wm) to load up. Rifle was same money as a LTR so I hope it shoots. It did come with a nice build sheet and names of who built it, test fired it, and they called it a 110 Precision Carbine in 300wm.

Re: New Savage

If you don't mind sharing..... how much extra is it to custom order a rifle, to your specs from savage, and what's the wait.
Also did you do the camo, thanks for the info, your guns look great.

Re: New Savage

I was thinking of getting the barrel threaded and using the same brake that is on my kids .308, that one works very well. If it shoots handloads anything like the .308 it will make me very happy.

Re: New Savage

I went to the range today with rifle, I was mostly concerned about velocities for hunting purposes. I had just a few rounds left over from hunting season last November, and it is still in the 20's here so no reloading in the garage yet. I went to the range with enough ammo to shoot three shots of 130gr barnes, 168 barnes, and then I zeroed with some winchester 150gr pp ammo I had 8 rounds total. Sorry guys it is just to cold to stand out in garage and load. I used my Sendero for comparison. The pictured group made me happy it was cold with a wind straight in my face i probably pulled the 3rd shot, shooting was done off bench with bags.

Velocities went like this
130gr barnes ttsx 3 shot avg out of savage was 3,420fps, 3 shot average out of Remmy was 3,680fps avg loss per inch of barrel was 43.3fps.

168gr barnes ttsx 3 shot avg out of savage was 3210fps, 3 shot average out of Remmy was 3450fps avg loss per inch of barrel was 40fps.

Factory Winchester 150gr PP ammo was 3 shot avg of savage was 3103fps, and 3 shot avg out of Remmy was 3240fps. Avg loss per inch of barrel was 22.83fps.

I had no pressure signs with any of handloads, I dont quite understand why i lost more velocity with my handloads then the factory stuff. Factory ammo was the last ammo shot today the group was rounds 9, 10, and 11 through the rifle. My savage in .308 shows pressure signs faster then my LTR, so I was concerned about pressure signs with my handloads for my Remmy because they are warm, but no signs in todays temps anyways. I have learned a lot hanging around here over the years so thought i would share info on this short barrel 300wm, will get more when weather warms up and I can see how this thing is going to group, and hopefully it will push the 208amax near 2750fps so I can play around at long ranges. On a side note the bushnell 3-12 worked great.

Re: New Savage

Very nice. With tailored hand loads especially if you use a neck coalating die it will seriously increase accuracy. If you neck coalate however you will have to make sure to not interchange brass between your two rifles. The results will be MUCH tighter groups.

PM me if you have any more questions.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: New Savage

I forgot to comment on felt recoil, it was not that bad from the bench. The softer recoil pad seemed to do its job, rifle is loud, was shooting from covered bench. My sendero gives you a push and stays on the bags, the savage lifts up from the bags about 4 inches every shot. No eye relief problems with the bushnell never had it touch me and was not hanging onto the rifle very tight.

Re: New Savage

Thats a pretty sweet deal. How was Savage's customer service? I am about to call them this week to order a breech plug for my muzzle loader, but I have never dealt with them before.
