Rifle Scopes New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

I have one, just put it in rings (actually a Near Alpha mount) last night. This Friday I will be sighting it. Mine is the DT Mil (26-mils total) turrets. Clicks are firm and solid.

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

Not sure what you refer to as locking turrets? ...unless that's something that just came out? Mine is CW. Funny how in Europe they use Mils and prefer CW, and here in the USA we use a mix of everything and prefer CCW.

Hey bro, post some pics of the new kit!!!

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

A friend of mine looked at one at the shot show and said it was very similar to the last one. Very stiff and has harder clicks at each mil (like the MTC knobs)... not sure if that was a feature of the older ones or not. I'll let you know next month when my 3-20 comes in!

btw the new ones arent even supposed to ship for 2-3 months? Did you get in on some special deal Alpine?

Mine is the original DT model. Got it from a guy who had two NIB scopes and is working overseas, so his thought was to sell the scopes and invest the money for something else instead of having the money sit in scopes he can't use.

So I traded my S&B 5-25x56 PMII P4 Moa DT CW for this PMII 5-25x56 P4F DT CCW with the new Turrets. Every 10th click, the click is much harder,so you know you are at a 10 denomination. The Elevation turret pops up a little ring when you are in the second row. However, there are no locking Turrets.

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

What you guys are comparing are the "MTC" turrets and the standard DT turrets.

The "New" S&B scopes are mainly the 3-20x50 with the locking turrets (LT)/ More tactile click (MTC) and the 5-25x56 with the same features. Available initially in Cerakote Dark earth and with new Klein or H2CMR reticle among the others.

Everything else for S&B has remained unchanged.

The "new" locking turret model isn't available yet. ETA around October- ish... maybe late September.

Honestly, I don't need any locking turrets. I have my eye on the MTC or the regular DT 5-25 p4F.

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

The 5-25 LP/MTC/LT was originally suppose to hit the market about now, but they have pushed it back to 4th quarter or later, last I talked with S&B germany.

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

Yes those are the older MTC turrets that are on the USMC S&B scopes. I didn't even know they put them on the 5-25s. The new ones look like this with the locking knobs

I have an original 4-16x with illumination on my lefty and it clears by like .5mm. It's a real knuckle-buster.

It's not so much a fad as what the military wants so it's being offered. If you look you will see other scope manufacturers offering a locking turret as well.

I don't care for it myself but some do. Just another choice.

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

S&B is by far the best scope on the planet hands down!! They are worth the extra money to get the quality, reliability and durability.

The new military style locking turrets rock as well as the duracoat option!

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

If you do anything except take your rifle to the range, locking turrents are the best thing since sliced bread IMO. I have had the turrets on my scope move a number of times during various hunting trips, makes for one more thing to worry about...

Re: New Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56

For JCVibby - I just mounted the 5-25x56 PM II MTC on a left-handed GAP .308 - no clearance issues with a Badger 20MOA LH rail. My only problem is getting the BC caps off so I can re-orient them for left hand use - they are like cemented on! The S&B guys in NH say "just wiggle them off." Not.

You would be very happy with this scope.

stevem,

You can "wiggle" them off little-by-little by placing your middle and ring fingers against the inboard side of the BC at 3, with your thumb on the opposing side of the bell at 9. You use the scope as a fulcrum point and pry the BC back a bit with your fingers. Then you reverse the locations of your fingers and thumb and pry the opposite side of the BC a bit. Then so-on and so-on until you wiggle the covers off and can re-orient their positions to your liking. HTHs.
