Rifle Scopes New Schmidt Bender scope

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

I have been told December to Fed on the 3-20x50mm but I really do not think we will see any until well after Shot Show.

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

Hopefully this isn't too far off the original topic, but...

I've been trying to figure out what I want in a S&B 5-25 and was thinking I should wait for the MTC/LT models but seeing as I don't have much to compare it to, it seems like those features aren't really a huge deal? I can get a CW model now, or wait an unknown amount of time and pay a couple hundred more for a CCW/MTC/LT version.

I've been shooting a Savage with a Falcon 4-14 on it for a little while and am building an AI AE which is what the S&B is for. Right now it's all paper and some steel, but I am hoping to get some classes in next year and maybe a competition or twi. Realistically once the AI is built, I probably won't pull the Savage out very often so the CCW vs CW is likely more in my head than an actual issue? Looking for some experienced advice on what S&B features I "need".... Thanks!

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

I have both a CCW and CW 5-25 and I never get confused because if I am dialing up I dial up in the numbers. Easy. Also has a zero stop so you can't go too far in the wrong direction off zero. So it's up to you whether to get it now or wait for CCW.

As for the MTC locking turret, I don't care for them on any scope so I wouldn't want a scope with them.

Get the P4F reticle in it with mil knobs and you will be fine.

Thanks for the advice! I had already decided on the P4F after searching the many threads here, but with the MTC/LT being new, there's not much to find in a search.

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

Just gave up on my 3-20 preorder (talked myself out of the locking turrets) and bought two 5-25 bigboys instead!

-Thanks Jay!

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

You won't be disappointed. Congrats.

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

Has anybody laid their their hands on a 3-20x50 yet?

Delivery was going to be summer, then 4Q.

In two weeks it will be 2011...

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

Not yet. Waiting for one. Will know more after SHOT but last I have been told is late Jan/Feb.

I think this quote could apply to almost any firearms related product!!!

That really sucks too because I have a MK11 MOD1 and a 16" OBR that need glass and the 3-20 and the 1-8 would fit the bill quite nicely for those rifles. I'm not going to wait possibly 18 months for glass. Damn you Schmidt & Bender!!!!!!

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

It won't be 18 months. 1-8s are being delivered in Jan to a unit of the armed forces and the 3-20s aren't far out.

Man you guys don't have any patience at all

Let's hope they fix the MTC turret indexing problem before the first one is sold.

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

I like it when threads reappear with "expected release times" and watching the times be extended and see people get all exited just to have them extended again. All the while making it seem like its only a month from purchasability. . . I can't even get exited about new gear until I start actually seeing production models anymore.

All that aside, that 3-20x looks like a serious winner. Looking forward to the day that one hits the streets.

what is the problem with the MTC turrets?

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

They had some MTC turrets that the .1 mil marks weren't indexed properly so they weren't right on with the clicks. S&B is taking care of any problem scopes.

Nly, this topic only popped back up because Two Man Attack felt like padding his post count and has since been banned for doing so.

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

I did not know the Mtc turrets were released yet.
i thought it would be found only the new 3-20.
Except for the problem, is it worth it?

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

Only you can answer that question. I personally don't feel a need for MTC turrets and like the standard dual turn knobs better. Some like the MTC.

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

Rob, What manufacturer do you think did the mounts for the new Schmidt & Bender scope displays? They look nice too!

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

Not sure whose mounts they are but I agree.

Re: New Schmidt Bender scope

The first and last are Recknagel mounts, not sure about the two in the middle.

Recknagel makes very good rings and one piece mounts (they also have a locking QD lever system), I regard them as kind of the default go-to high quality tactical mounts in Europe right now.

What is the general consensus on the MTC turret? Good...bad...otherwise?

I tried both the MTC and the standard turrets before ordering my S&B 5-25x PMII. I actually liked the regular turrets more. With the MTC's, I had a really hard time dialing .1 mils past a full mil (example: 2.1 mil's). Having the more defined "clunk" at a full mil that the MTC's give is nice, but I have no problem seeing a full mil on the regular turrets. For my needs, I'm happier with the standard ones. They are my favorite turrets on any scope I've ever tried.
