I'm getting a new bolt gun in the near future and looking into the scope and rings to match. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a Remington 700 (most likely LTR or SPS), definitely in 308 Winchester. I'd like to get either Badger base and rings or LaRue base and rings. I've always been a huge fan of Larue, and their customer service is second to none. But are their bolt gun bases and rings on par quality-wise with Badger?
Here are a few more questions; I'm pretty much set on getting a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32. The maximum distance I ever plan on shooting at is 800m, and realistically much closer. For a 600-800 meter shot is the 20MOA base necessary? How about the "zero stop" turrets? If I can get by without these two things I'd prefer to.
As for my uses, this rifle will be for fun range/ plinking, and possibly hunting/ hiking uses down the road. I'm not looking to get a long range competition set-up. That is why I'm thinking along the lines of a short/ light rifle with a 2.5-10x32 scope.
I appreciate any help. This site is full of great information. But it can also be overwelming for someone new to long distance shooting.
Thanks,
Doug
