You can also find a SS 3-9x42 Mil/Mil for $499 on the sample list. Just another option.

Best to narrow it down a little. What distances were you looking to shoot and more hunting or target shooting? For instance if you were hunting you might only need s 3-9/4-12 and a larger objective 44-50mm to let more light in while if you were target shooting at 500 yards youd want something around 15x-20x magnification.... Thats the best way to get the most for your money and fill your needs.
