Hello all!

First post here, and new to all this. I'm not new to firearms but I wanted to get into a little longer range shooting so I recently picked up a Remington 700 BDL-AAC Tactical in a .308. I'm debating on glass right now, and wanted some input. I'm going to be doing some 200, 300 and 600yrd shooting. I'll probably do 605 of my shooting in the 200 and 300 and the rest in the 600 with a little 100 mixed in. I'm pretty set on a Leupold 4.5-14 but I dont know a whole lot about them and I think i'm going to want a parallax adjustment (at least so I'm told). I read the intro to optics thread in this forum and it kinda backed my thoughts but I was curious on any other thoughts on different scopes in the same price range or what options on the scope we're a must in your opinion (like parallax etc). Thanks so much in advance!

If you would have checked a little more of the site out you would also have found that Leupold makes some of the cheapest china junk you can buy. Do some searching on here and you will find there are many other brands that are much better than the Leuturds.

I would also say the Vortex, from what I have seen anyone who had any sense would be after the vortex line and give the finger to the chinese leupolds

Re: New to all of this need scope advise!

Well thanks for pointing me in the right direction I think Vortex will definitely get my money over Leupold now. I want to order it soon, can anyone advise me on which reticle to get and why?

Re: New to all of this need scope advise!

Burris 3x12 works for me 1/4 min clicks GREAT GLASS!!! 30mm tube. Side parallax
It looks clearer than my Nightforce BR 12x42 At 42 power.
The magnification has much to do with that, but still it's friggin clear and bright. They make a 4x16 XTR I would have gone that route but they weren't out yet when I got mine. It tracks well too. Held a 6 inch inch group at 600 a couple weeks ago in 17 degree weather. With 69 SMK's in this setup.

A side note my .308 shot about 1/4 outside the 223 group with the Nightforce Br scope.

Re: New to all of this need scope advise!

What is your price range?

Super Sniper 3-9x42 FFP mil/mil: $540 with SSHIDE code
Sightron S3 6-24x50 SFP mil/mil: $750
Leupold mk4 4.5-14x50 mil/moa illuminated: $1200

IDK about higher-end stuff.

Re: New to all of this need scope advise!

I wanted to keep it under a grand if possible... I really like the look of the Vortex PST FFP and they are priced right at $850. I think i might go that route with a Mil reticle. Sounds easier for someone new to this then a MOA.

Re: New to all of this need scope advise!

Vortex viper pst all the way. I have not actually looked through one but I have one on backorder and have heard great things about them so far. Also, i have seen pictures taken with the same camera on the same day looking at the same part of a range with several targets that compares a leupold mark IV vs Vortex Viper PST 4-16 ffp vs Nightforce F1. From what I saw the Vortex VIper Pst was every bit as good as the leupold if not better and it was surprisingly very very close to as good as the NF. This has been backed up by what i have read/heard from other people who have received theirs already. Also, not to mention that you are getting mil-mil and ffp plus an iluminated reticle for almost half the price of what you would pay to get that in a leupold mark IV. Finally, with Vortex's it doenst matter what happened or who did it, we will fix it warranty you cant go wrong. Cant the say the same about many other scope manufacturers....especially leupold. Just my opinions.

Re: New to all of this need scope advise!

Thanks so much! Yours is still on backorder? Who did you order it from? I was just going to go Optics Planet or something but if there's a Sniper's Hide supporter out there, I'll order it from them.

Re: New to all of this need scope advise!

There is alot of quality glass for sale here on the hide once you have decided what you are after. Great prices on some great stuff.

For entry level stuff Burris served me well. I still have alot of there scopes mounted. I am slowly upgrading to NXS, and have even managed to get into a USO. They all are great but in diff realms such the price diff. I dont compair my Dodge Cummins to a Bentley though.
