Here’s my story and question. I’m about to take delivery of a Deviant Elite action with a 26” Bartlein 6CM barrel. But I’ve been itching to try out something different...

I’m thinking of moving to 6BR/Dasher and my question is... will any barrel that is for a Rem 700 fit my Deviant action. This is my first custom action. For example, if I bought a barrel 6BR barrel off a Cadex or Impact action, would it work on my Deviant Elite Action without issue or special parts/tools?

Apologize for the ‘newbie’ question, just want to make sure. I understand all the chassis/stocks are pretty much interchangeable (within reason based on barrel contour, lug, etc)... just not sure about the barrel to the action.

Chances are, no. "Remington Clone" is a very vague description anymore. There's a small menu of dimensions that have the potential for big consequence should a guy just "go for it" without the appropriate gauging and means of fitting parts together. Swapping from one action design to another is roulette.

Your better option(S):

1. Have a blank fitted by a reputable shop known to understand this stuff.
2. Purchase a quick change type barrel that uses a Savage style spanner ring to jam nut the barrel to the receiver. -this will also require some tools and headspace gauges (there are some exceptions to the gauging part of this) for the cartridges you wish to use.

If it’s the Deviant Elite with the cone breech, chances are, you won’t find a barrel made to fit. It is going to need to have a blank fit and chambered by a smith/rifle builder.

Appreciate the replies. I’m most likely just rechamber it to 6BR or dasher (haven’t decided) and have a local Smith do it... the Smith I talked to is familiar with Defiant actions and is charging $200 to rechamber it. Thanks again all...
