Hi,
I'm new here, was a sharpshooter in the Navy, a while back. I'm looking to get back into shooting at distance.

I have a cheap Mossberg 4x4 in .308, does well for what they cost.

I am looking at getting a DPMS LR-260 with the 24" barrel, but not sure if I should get that or the 20". Is this a good start?

I know the round is well respected for being accurate. I am trying to do this pretty reasonably. I know that Lilja and Krieger make barrels for this, and figure that if I can't get enough out of this barrel, I can always build a new upper with an aftermarket barrel.

I also am a reloader, so I plan on rolling my own after I get some time on the trigger.

Thanks,
Piper

I was leaning towards that, unless someone had a good reason to get he shorter one. I am really interested to see how this rifle performs and how accurate his round can be.

I have the 20" and it's been a great gun. Had it for just over a year now and have enjoyed shooting it. Have ordered a new barrel rom JP rifles, nothing wrong with the way it shoots but was expecting to need a barrel by spring time and haven't had any luck finding one. So when I did I bought it and figured I could put it in the safe until needed. Reload all my own ammo and can shoot them fairly well.

Well, I wasn't able to get one. I ended up ordering a Savage 11/111 LRH in .260 Rem. if that one works out, I think I will get a Bad News in .338 Lapua.
