After an unusually long search that began before the covid nonsense, I finally got my hands on a 10/22 Takedown for my "survival" rifle.

Currently, it has the Magpul backpacker stock and an MRO.
On it's maiden voyage to the range, I had several malfunctions that I started to blame on the factory 10-round mags, but further research showed that the ammo I was using (Remington) tends to be crap. Nonetheless, .22 in general, as I'm learning, is relatively unreliable compared to centerfire.

My short list of parts to address this issue is to get CCI ammo whenever it comes available, and a Volquartsen bolt tune-up kit.

There are a few other things that I think would be "cool" to do, but as for reliability, what other things should I be looking at?

unreliable?? no way, I have over a thousand rounds of ammo through mine without a hiccup. Now if you really want to make it more reliable a new bolt and bolt spring kit from Kidd does wonders to the 10/22, but before that a green scotch pad, like for your dishes to the inside of the receiver works wonders, just enough elbow grease to remove the factory paint from the inside, lets the bolt slide much easier. Good ammo will help as well.

Yeah, that's what I meant: the ammo (not the rifle) seemed to be the problem.

Thanks for the info! 👍

Try some different ammo before you start buying parts. There is a ton of aftermarket support for 10/22s the bolt assembly is a great upgrade matters on what your goals for the gun are
I've read that CCI is a good go-to bramd for .22LR. When I find some, I'll be snagging it up.

What are your accuracy expectations?

I have a friend with a 10/22 Target and it shoots surprisingly well, 25 Yards with Wolf Match-

He claims that his biggest upgrade was the trigger and I would have to agree.

For now, minute of prarie dog is what I expect. However, if past experience is any indicator, I'll probably end up suping this thing up incrementally once the mod bug bites.

I try to keep inexpensive things inexpensive, though (I have trouble getting my head around the idea of a $1000 .22 rifle... for now. Lol.)
