Hey guys, just bought my first long range gun today, I guess you hardcore guys would call it a beginner's gun for this crowd, but it's a Savage 338 Lapua. Anywho...just wondering what kinda scope I would need for distances out to 1000 yds? I looked at several cheap ones today, but don't know if something like NC Star will take the punishment of this gun, I appreciate any input for the rookie.

I assume you're payroll limited if you're mentioning NC Star scopes. That said, the SWFA SS 16x42mm is what I'd recommend. It'll take the punishment without issue. </div></div>

OP, don't buy a cheap chinese made scope and expect it to hold up.

Well, I'm thinking that the recommended above would be a start, but if someone has a scope they would like to trade for a Holosight (hint, hint if anyone sees this) then I'd kick it up a notch.

If you are budget minded, you just thought that Savage was chambered in 338 Lapua...It is really chambered in $5 bills! +1 on the SS though, inexpensive, and tougher than nails.
