New to the LR realm

Heya,

The name is Andrew, coming from a background of 14 years AD Army so far. 20 is so close!

But, moving along been dibbling and dabbing in the LR though process for years now on the personal side of life. So, that being said I am here to be a sponge and absorb as much as I can before I make a sad sad mistake with my wallet!

I have my Hunting rigs, not worried about a versatile rig, just a LR platform for plinking some steel 1k+. I still have plenty to learn and I will continue to read and observe as I see fit.

Currently stuck between a few ideas, leaning toward the lameo Howa 1500 Action and a chassis for now. Already have some pretty decent glass in the safe back home. Also, not afraid of saving up for the SH M700, I just read up on the sub 2k Rifle offered here. Any feedback from actual users?

Anyhow, just a bit about me, what I am doing here and what I hope to gain from this awesome community.

If your the tinkering type you might look into building instead of buying.
With a few tools and some minor research there are several actions that you can just order a barrel for and pick and choose what parts you want.
In the end you have a custom action outfitted exactly how you wanted it.
Basic tool list
Barrel vise
Action wrench
25-250 ft lb torque wrench
1/2" breaker bar for removing barrels
Go-No Go gauges

You've delineated one of the two most important aspects for your new rifle, which is to bang steel. The second piece of info we need is your budget. Are you looking at 2k and below?

Also, you indicated that you wanted to bang steel at "1k+," are you looking at doing the ELR thing or the 12-1500 yard thing?

Lastly, are you a reloader? For most folks, feeding these beasts is a definite consideration. If you're not considering that, you're not right. It's the only thing that keeps me away from the ELR thing...I'm a cheap fucker.
