Hi guys even though I have looked at this forum many times I am finally a member. So I am trying to shuffle around a few guns (sell some buy some) and I want a accurate AR build. So I want a flat top but hate the looks of the bull barrels! any suggestions on where to look to find a extremely accurate uppeer without the bull barrel ( I hate how they feel too). I would be willing to put in about 1300 for the upper? Thanks for your guys expert opinions and Im glad Im finally e memner

Keeping in mind you said an upper assembily, have a look at the Larue Stealth uppers.

Man, if you just want an accurate upper, you have plenty of choices. What do you want it for? Do you need the tactial rails and such?

Given your budget, you could get any number of high quality uppers. Some of the bigger names as stated above, do have more accurate versions of battle uppers and they are very nice, but make not mistake, the RRA Predator models and Bushmaster varmint models are tack drivers right out of the box. My last store bought upper was a Bushmaster Predator and it would shoot one hole at 100 yards with match ammunition.

On the other hand, I've built uppers using barrels from Bravo Company, Superior Barrels, Bushmaster, Wilson (RRA), etc. and they were all MOA or better shooters.

Still, given your budget, I'd call Superior, Ranier, WOA or Compass Lake and see what you can have built. Much of the cost of getting an upper from Larue or LMT or some other military oriented builder will be in the accessories that come with the upper. If you don't need the tactical rails and such, you may be able to save yourself some money.

Re: New to this Looking for a accurate Upper!

I have Larue OBR 556 and it's more accurate than I can shoot at least with my Accupoint 1x4. Target shot a Larue and sent with rifle was something like .548" at 100 yards. I have 16" barrel.

Listen to Grand! I have a 20" Stealth on a LMT lower that will shoot as good or better than all of my friends Gucci "customs" with heavy barrells. We have gone so far as to put my Stealth on their lowers and have them shoot and still the same result. Save yourself some time and money and go for the Stealth.

Re: New to this Looking for a accurate Upper!

You didn't really state your intended use or accessory preferences. But for an upper that will stand up to competition standards: WOA or Compass Lake are as good as it gets. The barrel, chambering job, and fit of bolt are the key ingredients. Get a Krieger barrel and have it chambered by a top AR gunsmith and you are good to go: WOA or CLE.

+1 on White Oak and Compass Lake. I'm very happy with my Compass Lake upper (Krieger barrel). I also know several guys that are happy with their White oak rifles. All NRA High Power guys.
