Hello everyone, I have been shooting for over 40 years but recently I have been drawn into longer range shooting. Having watched several of last year (2019) PRL UK Rounds, I am now in the process of obtaining permission to own a 300NM so that I can take part in their ELR Days. I am unlikely to be a prolific poster to this Forum, but will be around looking at what other's have to say, so that I can increase my knowledge of longer range shooting and obtaining reloading tips. Regards Mark.

Welcome to the Hide from Middle Georgia, acroos the Pond. Glad to see ya getting in the game. Lots to root around in and digest, especially on the cold rainy days. Hope you find all the info you need and don't hesitate to post or ask questions. You are always only competing against yourself, so get out there and dig in Brother. Glad to have you here!

Dragonscout25 many thanks for the greeting, it is lucky that we don't have too many "Cold Rainy Days" here in the South West part the UK, still there is always the dark nights to catch on things. I agree the biggest factor behind accurate shooting is the person steering the bullet to the intended target.

cghorr01, thank you for your welcome. here in the UK we have to seek permission to own every firearm, and show good reason for requesting them. Somewhat different to the USA rules I believe?

@cghorr01 different but it does depend on the state, haha. Check out MA gun laws sometime and you'll be like "wait, isn't this where the 'shot heard round the world' was fired? And isn't this where the US armory was for nearly 2 centuries?"

And that Sir, is criminal. Here in KY we still have our constitutional RIGHTS. THE Springfield Armory though!

Yep! You won't get much disagreement on this forum I'm sure. But the fact is some of our nation's first lands have been taken over by those who don't care much for the constitution in general and even less about the 2nd amendment. I am thankful that I also live in a freedom loving state, but I feel for those who don't, and for the OP who would have to change nationalities to have full firearm freedom!

@MarkELR welcome, but I'm curious, I read somewhere I believe that there are like 1.2 million guns TOTAL in the UK, and half are shotguns? My numbers might be off, but it seemed like it was a crazy low number like that.

archangel485, thank you for your welcome. I personally have no idea the numbers of Firearms and Shoguns legally held in the UK, but a quick Google search found this 2019 Home Office/National Statistics Report for England and Wales which suggest that you may well be correct. I have both a Firearms Certificate and Shotgun Certificate, so the numbers could be distorted and the actual number of Persons might be less than that quoted.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! Looks like mostly it's the older population that holds them, a combination of wisdom and resources I suspect. :)

Hi from Bristol! Also new, also British!
Sweet welcome. I think it's pretty cool to have you guys from different countries on here. Good to have your viewpoints. For example I heard from a guy down under that he can't get after market triggers on r700s, at least not for a reasonable price, blew my mind.

@ow3n Good morning to you, and welcome. I am based in Devon and like wise my initial shooting is based upon managing deer. Are you also on UKV Forum?
My introduction to shooting was through deer management but im drifting more towards marksmanship than hunting. I'm not on ukv, still finding my way around how it works in the UK!
