Hi all,

I have been lurking around here for some time and I have to compliment all of you and this forum because every time I come back, I learn something. I recently bought the Remington 700 SPS tactical in .308 and I needed to get a scope for it. I am in Illinois and I primarily shoot at the ISRA rifle range, primarily as a high power shooter. However, I was bitten buy the bug and bought a tactical Remington. So, with that, I didn't want to break my piggy bank and have to give away my First Communion money when getting a scope. I was really looking at several types, Bushnell, Nikon, Leupold, etc. I got an email blast from Wideners advertising a Weaver tactical scope. Upon looking at the ad, there really was no description given so I decided to google it. Now the model that Wideners has, is the same 4-20 x 50mm, however, it had a mil-dot parallax and 1/4 moa adjustments. I read sever reviews on THAT scope, most were good and ok, but some of you did not like the mil-dot- 1/4 moa deal. By chance, I went to Midway and they have the same Weaver tactical, same 4-20 x 50mm with a mil-dot parallax, but this model has mil- mil .01 adjustments and is FFP. Bingo. The Weaver model number for this one is the 800380. Midway has it on sale for $661 and that includes shipping. So I have purchased it. They as shipping it as I write this. So here are some questions;

1) Have any of you bought this SAME scope? The Weaver tactical 800380 with true mil mil .01 adjustments? If so, how do you likw it?

2) I have read that I should buy a steel 20mm base...ok...is the base Brownells makes/sells ok? Any other bases that you recommend?

3) As far as rings, I will get steel, but do I get high rings because of the 50 mm bell? What rings do you guys recommend?

4) The scope did not come with a sun shade or cover. Any suggestions on that?

I know that I will eventually have to get a stock. That is another whole topic there, so I wont touch that topic until I am ready to do so.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance-

MIke

They're 0.1 mil adjust which is just slightly more coarse than .25 MOA. Makes no diff really other than it's a hell of a lot easier to make corrections when your turrets and reticle match.

You're looking for a 20 MOA base, not 20mm. You don't have to buy steel base or rings unless you like the extra weight or you think you'll REALLY be abusing them. My preference for bases is Seekins. Saves you some weight, and sits low. Badger Ordnance has bith aluminum and steel bases, and they are excellent quality also. Don't know anything about Brownells.

On a Rem 700 you can use low rings with a 50mm obj. They will work best for a good eye position. I prefer Badger Ordnance rings, but there are lots of good rings out there. I try to stay away from rings that split vertically (like Warne)as they're a pain in the ass to mount.

You really don't need a sunshade if you're shooting at a local range most likely, but Nightforce sunshades do fit Weaver Tacticals if you discover you do need one.

I purchased this same scope a little while ago. Except in 1/4 Moa instead of mil ( just what I am used to). I am no scope expert far from it but have been very happy with this scope so far. I don't believe you could find a better optic for this price. Sun shade is not available from weaver good to know the night force fits thanks ryedaddy. I have a egw 20moa rail on my t3 with low Burris xtr rings and they fit well with this scope. Only complaint I have so far and this could be because the scope is fairly new but the power adjustment knob when cold (canada -15c) is a bit stiff for my liking. Other then that scope is excellent shot my best group with it on my t3 last week. 5 shot at 200 yards was .82" has tracked well testing out different loads and shooting steel at 600
