Re: New Winchester Mod 70 Review?
I have several Winchesters, pre & post 64s.
I got a New FN Model 70 Featherweight 270 Win.(Limited Edition) about two years ago.
In my opinion, its the best Model 70 to come down the pike.
When I got mine, I threw some loads together to mount the scope and then planned on working up some loads.
I stuffed 150 grn Hornady's into Winchester cases with 50 grns of 4350 and mounted/sighted in the scope. 2883 fps out of my rifle.
I lucked out big time, that load is outstanding in my Featherweight. I tried other loadings but keep coming back to the above load. It even out shoots Bergers (but, this is my hunting rifle, I didn't try Bergers at long range).
The trigger is easily adjustable but I haven't had to fool with mine. The action is smooth but tight. Good fitting all around.
The stock was the selling point when I picked this rifle out of the pile. The wood is about as close as I could find to match my Post 64 Featherweight in 257 Roberts.
I'll set this rifle back for Elk hunting, I'm not impressed with the above load for deer (Load, not rifle). I neck shot one last fall and it dern near took its head off. I'll stick with my 257 for deer and antilope, use the 270 for Elk.
Anyway, I'm highly impressed with the New FN Model 70. I haven't heard or seen anyone report any differant on their FNs.
