I am new to these sort of things but not new to guns and hunting!

I have a Remington Modle 7 - 20'' Barrel 10' Twist.
Is this gun any good for Long Range? What Sort Of Ammo For 10'' Twist?

am i able to get custom stocks for it?

Re: Newb Help!

kinda a newb myself on the .308 side as i just started my own build. The model 7 has the same barrel length and twist as my sps tactical and I am looking into shooting 165-168gr bullets. As for distance, theres many determining factors on feasible long distance(hoping other chim in) but I am looking into reasonable distances from 600-800 max for mine. Im sure others have no worries pushing further, but i'll work on those ranges for now.
I have notice mcmillian and h&s stocks out there for the model 7, but never researched to much as I own 700's. heres a little reading i came across in hopes of helping

oh i guess calibre helps. i based it on a .308

Re: Newb Help!

What caliber? If 308, as i understand it a 1 in 10 twist should stabilize most all. I'd try 168 or 175. Someone with much more knowledge than i will chime in (I just happened to wake up and thought i would wait to see the eclipse in a few minutes, so then again I am not sure what i am even writing this late). good luck

Re: Newb Help!

That twist is fine for the 308. The Model 7 uses a shorter action than a Model 700 and there is far less aftermarket support in the way of stocks, bottom metal, scope mounts. The lightweight barrel is meant to keep the rifle light and portable and isn't conducive to long range accuracy. Most long range precision rifles have a much heavier profile. However, until you try the rifle out, you don't know what it's accuracy potential is.
