Newb here? How low can you go?

Been shooting close stuff as fast as possible for awhile now, but I'm very new to optics, long range, etc. There's some great FAQ-type stuff about scopes here, but not really anything like that about spotting scopes. My biggest question is... how inexpensive can you get before you're just wasting money? What spotters are the "best buys" in various price ranges? Thanks.

Konus is the go-to low end spotter without reticle.
