I've had my SCAR 17s for a few months and its time for a proper optic although the aimpoint is great past 200 yards you cant see much of the target to hit it.
Although very capable its a battle rifle and realistically its a 700-800 meter rifle ( I'm not a very skilled marksman yet) I have about $1200 budgeted
Variable power
no more than 10x
I appreciate all suggestions

Re: Newbie asking for help selecting an optic

1. probably a better question to be posted in the optics section

2. you'll get about 20 responses for 10 different optics rangeing from bushnell to nightforce, then it'll end with a pissing match (chevy vs. ford kinda thing).

this is all i can say without getting into a chevy vs ford discussion (replace "rimfire" with "centerfire"):
Thoughts on picking a scope for a rimfire.

Thanks

Off topic. Can you tell me your experience on the SCAR 17.

Don't worry about it man. You will get better responses in the optics section though. But to help you out a little bit; a 4-16x PST would be a great scope. If you want to retain the 1x, I have a Burris XTR 1-4x that is absolutely great. I haven't taken it out to the range's you were talking about though. Also, the 3-9x SS would be a great scope for those distances.

Good luck man!

I shot one before I bought mine and IMHO its worth every penny.I don't own any bolt guns or high power optics but I mounted a friends USO 1.5-6x28 and got 1.5 inch groups (I'm just an average shooter) very low recoil for a 308 and a very light weight rifle. I ran all kinds of ammo through the gun no hiccups at all.
Some people may think its all hype I was one of those and it's all the hype and then some.

Re: Newbie asking for help selecting an optic

I've heard so many good things about the SS 3x9 but I really want illumination only drawback otherwise I would've gotten one already. I really like the PST 4-16 and after lurking around this site for a while and researching the difference between scopes and their features I certainly want FFP. I'm still on the poking around the forum to get as much info as I can I appreciate all the help.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Proud Noob</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Samer</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Rookie mistake first post.

Re: Newbie asking for help selecting an optic

for the money, the trijicon accupoint series is hard to beat. imo as good as much higher cost optics, and made in the usa to boot.

Re: Newbie asking for help selecting an optic

Used ST10 from USO.
