Hi, I'm new to the forum. I live in Scotland and have had the privilege to have been the Deputy Chief Firearms Instructor and Lead Rifle Instructor within a small Police Force (now part of the larger Police Scotland) in my past.
I was an operator too so not just teaching but practising it too.
I now just keep my skills for sporting use and teaching my 7&5 yr old daughters how to use weapons carefully. The 7yr old is quite a shot at 10m with an air rifle.
I still love learning about rifle shooting in particular so I will be reading the posts when I have time. Maybe I can impart some of my knowledge if I can remember!!
Thanks for having me.

Welcome! The wife and I hiked a stretch of the Cape Wrath trail a couple of years ago. Beautiful country and great people everywhere we went! We hope to return for another visit in the not to distant future.

It's amazing when you stand back and look at where you live sometimes. I think I'm privileged to live here but sometimes take it for granted. Glad the Scots made a good impression on you. I would like to explore more of the US having been restricted to Orlando Disney!
One day!

This is copied from the duplicate post. KIR has asked the following.

Would be interested to learn about the firearms laws there. Handguns available? Purchase in gun shops? Background checks? Concealed Carry? Any stats on crime there as well...? Just curious...

Gun laws here are very strict. Vetting and background checks are carried out thoroughly including checks with your Doctor. Handguns are a very special licensing process (RFD I think) but in general banned from use within the UK.
You can go into and buy from gun shops provided you have your certificate. Carrying of guns in public is a no no here unless being carried from shop to vehicle etc and are covered. They introduced airgun licensing in Scotland a few years ago but in my opinion it is another means of collecting revenue as you don't need to register any guns or serial numbers on the licence/certificate. Ammunition on firearms is restricted as are the number of weapons as long as you tell them why you need it. Shotguns and ammunition not so restrictive.

Hope this helps

Welcome welcome!

A massive fan of your country and people, spent 1.5 weeks there in January 2016 and want to repeat that trip. Some of our favs below.

Welcome but I find myself torn... on one hand, it's always good to hear from other LEO Instructors especially from outside the USA, shooting is always fun, and teaching your kids the right way is all awesome.

On the other hand, your country and people invented golf. My skills with golf have been somewhat "challenged" and a three year old piloting the SpaceX Rocket to Uranus while swatting the swarm of murder Hornets loose in the cockpit would be better than my golf game. But I have started work on my time machine. I plan on going back to when and where in Scotland golf was invented, find the guy, tie him up, cover him in honey and fire ants and run him over with a steam roller starting with his feet. But I'm not bitter about it.

Sorry, golf rant over. Welcome to the nuthouse!

Stay safe!

Spent a few weeks touring and hunting in Scotland on my honeymoon 25 years ago. Was basically all over the place. Really enjoyed shooting foxes and wood pigeons.
Enjoyed the sea castles as well. Beautiful.

Welcome to the site.
