I have a NF 8-32x56 with the discontinued NP-1rr reticle. I recently started planning out a range at my house, I don’t have a laser rangefinder so I set out a 9” diameter steel plate. The plate ended up fitting perfectly while at *R magnification between I and J which would be 18” at the 500 mark. My question is would that mean the range is approximately 250yds? It was definitely to large for the 300yd 9” circle so I know it’s less than that.

Just to finish this out for anyone who may search in the future. I spoke with nightforce directly they told me the progression is in fact liner so an object double the size would be 1/2 the distance. So that also means an object that is 1/2 the size (18” fits 9”) would be 2x the range. I also asked about reticle changes and they quoted me $350 and 6wk turn around which I will be doing. General note they were extremely helpful and easy to deal with. I’ve been looking into the moar reticle I have MOA turrets and that looks like an easy to learn feature rich MOA reticle.

MotoFlier, If you can afford it, & don't mind the wait-time, changing to the MOAR, or that type of reticle will be much easier for you to use! I have an earlier model NXS with the NPR1, & an ATACR with MOAR reticle. I find these two fairly easy to use.... Just remember with a second focal plane scope, you must have the power setting at the specified power for accurate ranging capability..... Good Luck, Idaho-5R
