Hi I just want to introduce myself to everyone. I been lurking around the forum for a few weeks now, I am mainly an AR guy but looking at all the sweet bolt rifles I decided to get one myself. here is what i got a Remington 700 SPS in .308 I believe it is the tactical version, it's got a 20 inch barrel. and hogue grips. can someone verify that for me please?
now I need to get rails for the scope any brand do you guys recommend? what scope is good to start with? I can spend about 300 on the scopes preferably a mildot one.

thank for your help in advance

Re: Newbie Questions about Remington

Yup, you have an SPS Tac.

Looking at your scope budget, you could get a SWFA Super Sniper, or maybe a bushnel 10x mil/mil.

Scope base/rings- Could get an EGW, and for rings, maybe SWFA SS rings, burris tactical, whatever your budget allows.

might want to put it in a different stock. maybe a used H&S or a B&C Light tactical, what your budget allows, maybe, somehow, get the hogue to work.

yes i do want a new stock, but that will come later after scope/ base/ rings etc. I saw a few pictures of remington 700 with 5 or 10 round mags, is that a conversion kit or i can just put a 5/10 round mag in there?

Re: Newbie Questions about Remington

^^ What he said. As soon as you can, throw that stock away and get a stock that can fit your budget. The Hogue is a lost cause, no matter what you do, it's still shit so toss it asap.
You have to get a DBM bottom metal in order to use 5/10rd mag. Wyatt, Surgeon and Badger Ordinance make them so check them out (they are $300 though). Another way to go is get a stock that come with a bottom metal already equipped, for ex: AICS, Mcree Precision, XLR Industries,...

Re: Newbie Questions about Remington

I agree on getting the new stock asap, but there is no need to throw it out because it will do just fine untill you get a new one. I still use my factory stock for my SPS Tac. and it shoots sub .5 MOA all day after taking a dremmel tool and grinding the stock down a little bit to assure that it tis free floating. There are a bunch of scopes that you can go with for that price range that will get the job done, but my experience with the SWFA SS are nothing but good for $300.00.
