    so cal
can someone explain the differences between:

    body die
    full length die
    small base die

I am reloading 308 for my roscoe built 700. I am getting ready to purchase all my reloading equipment now and cant tell the difference between these monikers and the different manufacturers.

    thanks for your help,,,,,,,

Body die does little else besides push the shoulder back.

Full Length die sizes the entire piece of brass from the case mouth to the case head and everything in between. (My personaly favorite.)

Small base die sizes the lower section just above the case head area EXTRA plus the rest of the case, for SOME tight chamber semi automatic rifles. Your Rem 700 should not need this type of die.

Personally I prefer to full length size everything. But you might want to ask Mr. Roscoe about any specific settings and how to set up right for it. Depending on the chamber reamer he used, you may not have to work hard to get some really tight groups. Every now and then you can get the length on a loaded round short enough to feed through the magazine box and still be where you want it in relationship to the lands of the rifling.

Good luck with your new piece.
