I am just getting started into reloading 308. I bought a forster co ax and a lee collet die a redding body die and a forster ultra seater. I plan on using lapua brass so my question is when I first load the brass do I need to size them with both the body and neck dies or this is not needed till after it is shot the first time?

Re: newbie sizing questions

Odds are that the neck of the brass is already slightly smaller than you will be sizing to. Of course this depends on what gun you have, bolt or auto. And how much neck tension you want. It is probably ok to just prime, load powder, seat and shoot. It just depends on you.

You could also resize the brass expanding the neck and then sizing it to the exact size you want. You could go ahead and prep the primer pockets too. I normally dont do this with new Lapua brass I just shoot it the first time and then do the 1 time prep.

Basically it depends on you and what you want.

Well, no matter how you do it, nothing will blow up.

It may be best if you size the necks to uniform them first but really isn't going to matter.
