I'm getting the itch to start shooting with supressors and was wondering some of the legal aspects of it all.
Can the supressor be moved from one rifle to another or are they like SBR uppers?
Do you need a seperate Tax Stamp for each supressor you purchase?

Re: newbie supressor legality questions

Different rifles are ok, one tax stamp per can each time it's sold, as in you buy and pay 200 and if you sell it the next pays that same 200. Some states it's legal to own one check some suppressor sights they have that in their faq section, can use a corp/trust or leo signature to get approval to buy one.

The suppressor is the registered serial numbered item. You can put it on whatever you want to.

Each suppressor is a different tax stamp.

I am new to the whole suppressor thing also and i had a question about your privecy, rights, etc.

My buddy stated "Once you sighn the papers and get the supressor, you also sighn away your privacy rights as well.
They can come and search your home and violate your privacy without a permit or warrant"

Is this true?

I've never heard of site visits.

If your suppressor found is find at a crime scene, you may have reasons for some questions.

Hell, ATF agents can't find time for visits regular FFLs unless they have some reason to think there's monkey business.

False. ATF doesn't conduct surprise inspections of the homes of people who own NFA toys. Heck, they can only do a compliance inspection on FFL's annually at most, and they don't have the manpower to check us more than every 3-5 years.

This.

The agents can also only ask to see a particular NFA item(s) and aren't going to go digging through your safe.

Please do me a favor. If this friend is an American, ask him if he actually knows what the fourth amendment says. Then ask him where on the tax stamp application it waives our 4th amendment rights. It is people like him that are making it hard for me to change the law in WA regarding their use.
