I am just getting into semi/long range shooting, built a rifle on AR platform in a 224 valkyrie, looking to put a budget friendly scope on it. This will only be somewhat temporary, I have a budget of 300.00 what in YOUR opinions would be a good start?

Your budget will be the limiting factor, that low the 10x would be the best bet as it is decent glass and tracks well. I can’t think of much below $300 that would work better for your needs. You can see well beyond 800yards at 10x (you won’t be able to spot holes in paper beyond say 100 though). Higher power will be helpful but really you need to step up towards $800-1000+ to have good tracking and variable magnification with decent glass that is actually useful towards the top of the mag range.

Trust me, I know I am just needing something to tide me over till I can afford a better one
