I am trying to decide to pic a compact scope for a 20" semi-auto .308. I already own two NF 5.5-22x NP-R1 and have been extremely happy and very comfortable with the MOA/MOA setup. Most shooting will be done inside of 800yards in all different conditions, day and low light.

The discontinued model is available with Zero Stop and NP-R2 for $1200.The new 2.5-10x32 is $1470 for same setup with Zero Stop. Not considering price would anyone pic the older model since it is shorter, lighter, has same eye relief and 100MOA internal adjustment over the newer model? Would you pick the older model considering the price difference?

And last but not least, does the newer setup have significant advantages to warrant a ~$300 difference that you would recommend the newer model no matter what? Thanks for all inputs.

Re: NF 2.5-10x24 or 2.5-10x32?

I'm running the x32mm model, and I can tell you that at 10x, it has significant advantages.

The x24mm model at 10x has a very, very small exit pupil (24mm/10x = 2.4mm). Not only does this require an absolute perfect cheek weld, but image brightness quickly degrades in lower light conditions, even overcast days.

No complaints with my x24. I can't fault it in any way! Granted I'm used to scopes and never have a hard time centering my eye up. Come to think of it I've never used it at dusk or dawn yet but it sure seems like a clear-bright scope every time I look through it.

Yeah, I'd pick the less expensive one. A scope at that application should not stay at 10x its whole life, if so you will need different glass. If you plan on shooting 90% of the time at 8x or lower, you will never notice the difference.

Re: NF 2.5-10x24 or 2.5-10x32?

I have both and they both are great scopes. The 2.5-10x24 has a narrower exit pupil which is noticeable at 10x. Then again...it will probably look like a lot of exit pupil if you are using a high-mag scope.:) Beyond the exit pupil not much of a difference. The x24 look perfect on my ARs and the x32 looks perfect on my bolt action hunting rifle.

I figured. I really wish they actually had a 2.5-10x42 model such as the IOR or the Viper PST coming out. If IOR had an MOA reticle
and if PST was available now they would get serious consideration. The PST being the same 19oz but with probably better low light performance and their MOA reticle
for half price would be hard to beat.

If you dont need illumination consider the SS 3-9x42 FFP. Originally i wanted he NF 2.5-10x32 for my SPR AR. The i compared thr price vs the features i really needed.

Trust me if I wanted mil reticle I would have so many more choices. Key requirement is MOA reticle.

Re: NF 2.5-10x24 or 2.5-10x32?

I have the 32, have never looked through a 24, so the only thing I can add is that either is probably a great scope. I love the 32 and if you dial down to 5X, it will give you as much light transmission as you'll ever need. And with a little illumination, on the reticle, I've had shots on deer I could have easily taken at 7-8X out around 200 yards in low light...if only it was legal to do so.

The two best things about that scope are the tracking and the size. The worst thing is that I got mine without zero stop and there's no indication on the knob that you've gone around again. Without it, you have to stay aware.

Re: NF 2.5-10x24 or 2.5-10x32?

I had the same debate and chose the 24mm objective for its smaller size. I felt that it was a better "fit" on my 16" AR. I would also recommend the zero-stop feature, whichever one you choose.

My logic is that if I'm shooting at 10x, I'm doing so from a rested position, probably slow-fire, so I can have my head in a proper position without difficulty.

I heard from one source that the 24mm isn't being produced anymore, and from another that it's simply not being produced for the commercial market. Anybody know the full story on this?
