love my two razor hd gen 2's on my dmr and 3 gun rifles. what do they have that is slightly scaled back (ie a little less coin) for hunting that you recommend, little lighter wouldn't hurt either. or is the shv (such as 4-14) the better value?

Bushnell LRHS or LRTS provide a lot of optic value. Good glass, solid mechanics, and low profile 10 mil elevation w/ zero stop and a capped or locking windage (depending on model)

I have a 3-12 LRHS on my SPRish 18” AR. I liked it so much a bought one of the GAP special deal 4.5-18 LRHS to have for a to be determined future rifle.

I’m surprised the 3-12 doesn’t get more attention. It’s a killer scope. I’m not a hunter but it seems like it would be great for that application.

I hope that the SHV is a better value, only because I have one being delivered tomorrow. One of these days I'll get out and compare it to my Gen II Razor along with an XRS I own and an HDMR that is also on its way.

I’m here to tell you, the SHV 4-14 F1 that I had was a fantastic scope for the $$. In that category, I found it FANTASTIC. My only “complaint “ was the 5 mil turrets. The glass was solid, the scope tracked perfectly. I did a box test with it, 5 mils left, 5 up, 10 right, 5 down, and finally, 5 left. It put bullets in the same holes almost at the conclusion. I ONLY sold it to find another NF (ATACR 1-8). But, my buddy has it, and has zero complaints.
I’d probably buy one again if it came up and I was looking at all.

It tough to beat a Leupold for a hunting scope. Generally the lightest weight and best lowlight performance. I also like SFP for hunting (Vx-3i, VX-5/6HD).

If you wanted FFP, the Mark 5HD 3-18 or the VX-3i LRP.

Lack of illuminated reticles at a reasonable price is a dealbreaker for me.

Have a look at the LRHS/TS. Vortex AMG would be pretty awesome too. Has more FOV at 6x than most 5-25 power scopes at 5x

If you’re wanting to stick with Vortex, the Razor HD LH fits the bill. Excellent glass, extremely light weight, but fairly mushy turrets and no illuminated reticle option. I’ve had 2, ran a 3-15 for a while before upgrading to a z8i, but hung on to the 2-10. If they offer the next generation with illumination, I’ll buy a few more.
