So I’m not sure if this is the correct place for this issue but I really need some help.

I filled out my form 1 so I can buy a 22 can from quite bore 11 days ago. My cover letter has half the barcode and no control number BUT it says I need to send in this along with my prints within 10 days.

The mutant that I talked to over at the ATF was ZERO help and told me I need to email “ask the experts”. Well, still no reply like I figured. I sent in my cover letter and my prints so I can be within the 10 day mark but my buddy said that it’s useless to do so because you don’t have your control number yet.

I can’t be the only one with this scenario so any help out be great.

Did you get a contact person with their email when you started the process? I did and I contacted her a couple of times. She got back to me in a reasonable time. Good luck with this. I have a feeling you are going to need it.

Did you get this email?

I'm not nearly as well versed in the efile shit but I did break my cherry. So first off, the "Ask the Experts" is just a joke, everyone knows there are no "experts" at the ATF. Silly you. FWIW, I asked 'em a question 1.5 months ago and I never heard anything back either. Ie, they don't exist. The proper terminology is not "mutant" but "bridge troll" which is more befitting their nature as completely unhelpful and fickle gate keepers.

That said...

Note what it says: He got the "PENDING RESEARCH" notice, not the print cover letter --you didn't select shit from the drop down scroll did you? I guess you can't do that form1'ing a can... There's a way to enter a form1 suppressor to avoid this but I can't recall what it was, only done SBR's. You'll wanna look that up next time. If you SBR something and fill out your own name/model and don't use the drop down selection, you'll get that too.

I THINK you'll get the request for prints AFTER "PENDING RESEARCH" when it goes into "SUBMITTED/IN PROCESS".

I HEARD the "pending research" part takes like two months? It basically stretches it out to however long it takes to do it the old way.

I got my cover letter and shit like minutes after completing the online form. Mine said "submitted, in process" --still does in fact, been 1.5months. I only did it to try it out on a couple SBR's, I'm still fully expecting to get a refund (or have to fight for that I suppose) and still do it on paper later this year. It took me ALL DAY to convert files to the most basic this they can/will accept, doing it over and over due to crashing, etc. It's definitely my last time, they're barely in the 20th century so it's better to use 19th/20th century methods.

Just remember that's the best they can do and they only have 5101 employees total when they decide they want all your shit.

Oh yeah, they'll send you the shit to mail your local cop shop too. You didn't get that either did you? Edit: Never mind, I see they did send you a copy of the form.

Look up that "PENDING RESEARCH" deal and I think you'll find your answer.

Strykervet is correct. You should not have sent in you prints yet. My pending research took a couple months because I put in my own model suppressor. What you "should" do is choose one from the drop down list. Should take much less time that way. Live and learn. I believe as

Strykervet does that you are in the waiting process to receive your cover letter. Hopefully sending in your prints won't throw a wrench into your process.

Can you post the incomplete form?
I have zero clue why the atf sent me an incomplete document. I guess it makes to much sense to wait and send a completed one.

I was looking at it as “damned if I do, damned if I don’t”

either I send in the documents along with prints and it’s wrong and the government mutants mind explodes cause they don’t know what to do next OR I wait for a completed form and it was the wrong call and my 10 days expire.

That's the correct form. Did you get these as the process went along?
1 - I received Pending email.
2- Had to look online to see status. Status was Pending Research. (Took 3 months)
3- I received Submitted / In Process email (Has Cover Letter & copy of filed form attached)
4- Sent in Cover Letter with finger prints.
5- Received the Approved email. (Has tax stamp on form)

Each of these has to be done in order.

It’s simple. If you got an email with a PDF that says draft on it, it is just that. A draft. If you are in pending research you will not have your cover letter with barcode, or the letter for your CLEO. You will now wait until the ATF “researches” the name you choose.

Once you are out of pending research, you will get your email with two attachments. Your status will also have a control number. Then you can send your prints in with said cover letter, and the CLEO copy to your designated CLEO.
