Hi All. I've been lurking around the site for a few days as I have just taken the simi-auto plung into a 224 and need some glass. Reading reviews and stories and realizing I should actually get involved.

I'm Erik in Chandler, about mid 40's or something around there. I've recently gotten back into shooting things with powder recently as one hobby leads to another. I have been shooting since I was 5 and took a break from powder about 4 years ago and switched to bows. Sold off my S&W 629 6 inch (kick myself), HK USP45, and bought bows. I hadn't been shooting rifles for about 20 years. Hadn't hunted since I was 17 so I didn't have a 'need' for them. Recently thanks to a friend saying "you really need to get an AR" and PSA having a sale... here I am a few guns and months later. Serveral 9's added to the collection, a safe, a 300blk, 223, fns9c, fns40, fn509 tactical, hk vp9, and most recently a .224.

The 224 is what lead me here. I'm a member of the Phx Rod and Gun club so I have a 100, 200, 300, 500 yard line available to me now. I also wanted something to hunt with and was fairly cheap, so the 224 came into play. It's nothing special just a PSA upper 18in 1:7. So I'm looking at glass and trying not to break the bank, but also do it once (yeah that ever happens...) knowing full well I'd like to build something along the lines of a bolt action 338 etc and be able to reuse that glass.

I don't get the 300 and 500 lines much but when I do I'd like to ring some steel and maybe get on some paper. I'd like to get good enough for some actual shoots as well as hunt as I have some friends that hunt now as well. i can hit 8 inches of steel with my 223 iron sights and 5 with a 5x Burris AR prism. I've been eyeing the Area and some used PST's and Razors so far but know nothing so far about the mounts, BC's and DOPE's. I think it'd be nice if there was a precission lower for this upper but I think I'd probably be best starting over for a bolt.

So in a quick nutshell that's me, I'm also a car guy and work IT stuff all hours of the night.

Welcome. Fellow PXH resident here. A few of us here in the valley. Lots and lots of good info to be learned here regarding long range precision and optics. The online training is great place to start, but reading heavily in the optics threads and stupid markmanship questions threads will get you a ton of info also.

Chandler here as well, so welcome! I haven't shot at PRGC in years, but am considering a membership. The local matches (run by the AZLRPRS club) are all shot at Cowtown, but it's nearly an hour and a half from my place, whereas PRGC is about 20-25min depending on traffic. But it doesn't get me out as far as Cowtown. Decisions, decisions...

Yeah I'd say come out with me sometime but I can't promise access to the long yard lines, honestly the 300 is hard to come by a few times but I sat and shot the gongs @200 not even thinking "Hey I have the whole place to myself, I could go 300" but I had my Scorpion and FN509 only on hand.
