Night Force scope caps a BC Alternative

Re: Night Force Compact scope caps

They are Nightforce (I think), and have adjustable polarized filters on the outer cap F&R (which can be flipped up). They do seem durable, and are very nice, but have a stretchy rubber housing that never would stay in place for me. I was always knocking them loose.

I replaced the caps with BC's

I love the scope though, and have 3 of them.

Re: Night Force Compact scope caps

After I broke both ocular and objective Butler Creek caps within a week on my NXS F1 I recalled reading in the thread about how BC cap quality has gone to shit lately and I didn't want to buy another set that would be just as fragile. So I was playing with the set that came with my NF 2.5-10x32 and they do seem much more durable.

The rubber allows the cap to flex if you bend it all the way back. They may end up stretching a little, but some tape around the scope will fix that.

Anyways, I am pretty sure they are Weaver and I just ordered a set from Optics Planet for $17.00, I think these are going to work much better than BCs until they get their crap together.

Re: Night Force Compact scope caps

The covers that came with my 2.5-10x32 were weaver. They were so flexible that the cover on the front obj would fall off while being opened unless held in place with the other hand. I guess I could have taped it in place but I had an old set of BC covers I am using instead. I wasn't terribly impressed with them. I think I'm going to have to start making my own covers in order to get a decent one anymore. I hope the weavers work for you.

Re: Night Force Compact scope caps

Guys,

Something that I have done for a long time that is simple and cost effective:

Take a bicycle innertube and cut it into 1" bands.

They can be used to stretch over the top of the lens cap to keep it in place.

They also can be used on the scope itself, (between the scope and scope cap) as a shim for a scope cap that is loose fitting.

I ran a 1.5-5 Leupold for a number of years on a work gun and never once lost a scope cap.

Example photo for those who are more visually oriented:

Hope this helps.

If you guys want a good alternative, PM "Hooper". He is thinking of making thread-on aluminum flip caps that will be high quality if there is enough interest. Consider how much you spend on optics, spending more money to protect them is a no-brainer.
