Why won't Nightforce make a reticle for the 1-4 that is similar to the vortex viper pst 1-4 reticle? Seems to me with a new reticle Nightforces 1-4 would be a perfect scope for an AR. I emailed Nightforce and asked the same questions, they replied and said they weren't planning anything new. Is it really that hard to create different designs?

Something like this.

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

Fc2 does have MOA holds ..On 4x The dot is 2moa the Circle ghost ring is 10moa or 5 moa lower hold the post tip is 10moa hold the bottom post is 15 moa.. The circle ghost ring is .5moa the side wings are another 5moa or 10 moa from center .

On 1x the post lower is zero in your face the top post is zero 10 feet for snake head shots ..

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

This is exactly why I sold my 1-4x NF. The Mil-Dot reticle is all but invisble for CQB, and the FC-2 reticle lacks mil-scale hold-overs for longer shots.

A 1x optic with the right reticle is awesome for CQB, but I'm sick and tired of people telling me I can't shoot further becuase I only have 4x. These are the same folks who think you can't shoot 1000 meters with a 10x optic. I used to shoot 8" steel @ 600 meters with my 1-4x NF all the time, but I want CQB and long-distance capability. No compromises.

I was leaning toward the Vortex reticle also, but now I'm sold on the new SWFA 1-4x which comes out early next year. SWFA finally got it right!

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

Man I can't agree more. I'm looking for something like that right now to be used on semi .308's, outside to inside type guns. I want some type of lit circle reticle around a set of cross hairs and some mil hashs for ranging without dialing. There are a few out there that I like, but they they start at 1.5x and not 1. If you ever shot in a tirehouse with a both the difference is profound.

I don't want a dot in the center, but something like a EOtech with a set of cross hairs superimposed.

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

I don't understand Nightforce's thinking either. They make an extremely nice 1-4x scope with glass clear enough to shoot an AR-15 out to 500yds and they offer a crummy selection of reticles that don't have daytime illumination. Thankfully there are now more brands w/better reticles and equally good glass.

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

I've called NF and discussed this with them. They laughed at me too, and tried to convince me the FC-2 was the only plausible reticle for a 1-4x scope because nobody shoots long distances at 4x.

They also said if it wasn't for a SOCOM request, the Mil-Dot reticle wouldn't be offered in their 1-4x model either.

Agreed. It is the ultimate. I was excited until I saw the price.

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

You are close enough to come to my range and witness the 1-4 FC2 do what you think it will not do well its a kick ass 600 yards scope,Daytime ILL is not a need that I know of,I never even use the ILL retcule on it..560 YARDS CENTER HITS ON PLATE IS EASY..useing the FC2 or dial it up..

Originally Posted By: DT1

I don't understand Nightforce's thinking either. Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

Like the Z6i, but not the price. I run a burris XTR 1-4 on my AR for 3gun, but not sure if its durable enough for daily use. I also like the pics of the IOR Pit Bull, but don't know anybody using one.

What are your holds? I have the Fc-2 and love it but haven't had the chance to shoot at distance, I have a 200 yard zero, load is a 69gr smk doing 2850, I think it should be 400 bottem of circle, 500 top of post,600 bottem of post, am I in the ball park

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

Useing the center DOT as 100 yard ZERO with your load on 4X

200 YARDS BOTTOM OF DOT
325 INSIDE BIG CIRCLE
350 BOTTOM BIG CIRCLE
450 TOP OF POST
575 BOTTOM OF POST
Use the hold inbetween by thought of diffrence from point to point its 2.5 MOA from center dot to half way point to bottom circle.

1x
in your face bottom of post.
10 feet top of post.
25 feet bottom of big circle..

Re: Nightforce 1-4 Reticle

It's an angle which results in a movement of 1 inch for every hundred yards of distance from the target.

For example, an angle of 1 IPHY will subtend an arc whose length is 1 inch at 100 yards, 2 inches at 200 yards, 3 inches at 300 yards, and so forth.
